* This is the main organization for professional translators and interpreters in the UK, Membership shows that this long-established and internationally-respected organization recognizes that a translator has the skills required to be a professional translator for the language combination for which they are admitted (in my case, Chinese-English).
**The Diploma in Translation (DipTrans) was introduced in 1989 as a benchmark of professional standards and has since continued to meet the needs for a high level professional translating qualification.It is a postgraduate level equivalent qualification intended to test the ability of those who wish to progress into careers as freelance translators or work for corporations worldwide, to a professional standard. It is a widely recognized international qualification which provides a real measure of professional competence.

What I offer
*I have an excellent grasp of Mandarin Chinese, nurtured by 18 years of living in a Chinese language environment, several years of formal Chinese study and over a decade of self-study. I have no difficulty reading Chinese newspapers, magazines, reports and documents and also can fully understand TV and radio broadcasts. My spoken Chinese and listening comprehension are also excellent. I have some knowledge of classical Chinese, too.
*I have extensive knowledge of, and a strong interest in, China and Taiwan’s history, art, culture, politics, economy and society, and also a good understanding of world history and politics and wide general knowledge.
*I have an educated native speaker’s grasp of English and I am also able to write English to a high professional standard.

*I have over twelve years experience as a freelance Chinese-English translator, during which time I have translated for a wide range of government bodies, museums and leading companies in Taiwan and foreign companies in China .
