Audiology Assistant

Qualifications

1.  / High School diploma or equivalent required.
2.  / Audiology Assistant Certification from the Florida Department of Health required.
3.  / Two years’ experience as an Audiology Assistant preferred.
4.  / Valid Florida Driver License.
Job Goal
To improve student access to audiological services by increasing the availability of audiological services, increasing productivity, reducing wait times and enhancing customer satisfaction by assisting the audiologist in performance of tasks that do not require a licensed audiologist.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Knowledge about hearing impairments and their consequences; knowledge of educational referral procedures and criteria. Ability to function as a member of an educational team and a strong desire to work with children. Must be able to travel to various schools.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions

1.  / Provide maintenance on a variety of audiological equipment.
2.  / Perform Hearing Assistance Technology (HAT) troubleshooting and repair.
3.  / Verification of HAT operability of assigned equipment.
4.  / Delivery of HAT equipment to students at school sites.
5.  / Train students and teachers in use of HAT equipment.
6.  / Conduct classroom acoustics measurements including noise measurements and determining need for acoustic modifications.
7.  / Train and instruct teachers and students on how to reduce the risk of noise-induces hearing loss.
8.  / Assist audiologist in student audiological testing.
9.  / Record keeping including equipment inventory, maintenance logs, student referrals, and student charts.
10.  / Assist in researching audological trends and practices.
11.  / Clerical duties including, but not limited to, filing and scheduling of students for testing.
12.  / Participation in District-level training and inservices.
13.  / Perform other duties as assigned commensurate with the skills and abilities of the position.
14.  / Provide outstanding customer service and use positive interpersonal communications skills.
15.  / Make all decisions and perform all tasks in accordance with Brevard Public Schools’ Organizational Values.
16.  / Ensure compliance with Board rules and applicable federal laws and regulations.

Physical Demands & Working Conditions (ADA Compliance)

Medium Work: Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force consistently to lift, carry, push, pull or move objects.
