Age divisions are your age as at 25th March 2009. WLQS Pros and amateur competitors may enter the Retro and Stand Up Paddle divisions. WLQS pros cannot enter any other amateur divisions. WLQS entries close February 25 and must be paid direct to your ASP regional office. (in Australia ) Amateur entries close March 18. Late entries incur a $10 late fee. No refunds after March 18.

In applying to compete in the 2009 Hyundai Malfunction I acknowledge that there are inherent dangers associated with the sport of surfing and serious accidents can and do happen which may result in me being injured due to my participation in the Hyundai Malfunction. I confirm that I am suffering no illness or health issues that may put me or my fellow competitors at risk due to my participation at the Hyundai Malfunction. To the extent permitted by law I agree to absolve and indemnify the Gold Coast Malibu Club and its sponsors, Island Style Promotions and Surfing Australia, their directors, officers and employees from and against any and all liability for injury, loss or damage however caused arising out of my participation in the Hyundai Malfunction. I agree to release and forever discharge the Gold Coast Malibu Club and its sponsors, Island Style Promotions and Surfing Australia from all claims that I may have or may have had but for this release arising from my participation in the Hyundai Malfunction.I agree that the Gold Coast Malibu Club, Island Style Promotions, and Surfing Australia retain the right to utilise images of my participation in the Hyundai Malfunction for the purposes of promoting the Gold Coast Malibu Club, Island Style Promotions and Surfing Australia. International competitors are advised that they may not be covered by the Australian Medicare scheme and are further advised that they may need travel/hospital insurance should a situation arise. I have read, understood, acknowledge and agree to the above declaration including the warning, release and indemnity. I affirm that I have not altered the official contest entry form in any way.The Hyundai Malfunction organisers reserve the right to change/cancel events, times and merchandise items.

SURF
March/May is the prime time of year for longboard surfers on the Tweed Coast. Normally the surf is in the 2-4ft range with offshore southwest winds prevailing. With water temperatures around 20C and land temperatures 24, surfers will be quite comfortable in a spring suit.
GETTING TO KINGSCLIFF
International flights arrive at Brisbane or Sydney. Brisbane airport is about 75 minutes by car from Kingscliff, while Sydney Airport is 11 hours by car. For competitors flying into Sydney a 1 hour domestic flight to Coolangatta on the Gold Coast is available. New Zealand competitors can fly direct to Coolangatta Airport from New Zealand.
Domestic flights arrive at the Gold Coast airport (Coolangatta) and Kingscliff is 10 minutes south of there. Be warned Jet Star Airways don’t take surfboards so domestic air travel may need to be with Virgin Blue.
