PERSONAL TALE
HERITAGE GEOGRAPHY
In this activity you will be completing a variety of projects that will relate to genealogy, family history, and final presentation of information. You will find descriptions, point values, and due-dates for each aspect of this project
Friday, April 11th:
-Genealogy Terminology Quiz: 54 points
-Continued work on typing Timelines, Documentation, and Pedigree Chart (personal portfolio)
-For the weekend/spring break: Begin to gather family information for your personal tale
Personal Tale
You are to focus on the history of your family in a brief presentation. The topic can be the entire family line, the maternal side, paternal side, or a specific individual in your family. This presentation will be presented in the form of a PowerPoint slide show. Your presentation must include:
-Photos or other documentation 30 %
-Scripted narration (included with your storyboard) 40%
-Text on each slide (keep text to a minimum) 10%
-Clarity/Perfection 10%
Each Personal Tale must be in the two-minute range in length. Simplicity of design is important here. Do not use animation, special colored slides, etc. Let your words and images do the talking.
Tuesday, April 22nd:
Computer Lab
-You can use this time to scan photos and documents that you might plan to use in you Personal Tale. This time could also be used to complete additional research into your family history using the Internet. If you have a scanner at home it would be a good idea to complete this task at home. We have a limited number of scanners at school and they are fairly slow.
-Your homework is to continue to gather your family story. This might involve making phone calls or taking the time to actually sit down to have a conversation. Remember, one of the underlying purposes of this assignment is to talk with your relatives, build some bridges, showing them that your family is important to you. Start to formulate which type of story and information you want to present.
Thursday, April 24th:
Script
At this point you will have had about a week to gather information about your family. (I told you to start last Monday, April 7th) We will work on a rough script for your Personal Tale today. Timing is key to this part. Stick close to two minutes. Time yourself. The words must be perfect. If you don’t have images and documents to support these words you must think of how you will support your ideas.
-Continue scanning images/documents.
-I take time to discuss with each one of you your progress, look at your rough drafts, and give you some ideas that might help your presentation.
****YOUR NARRATION FOR YOUR LOCAL TALE IS DUE******* 50 POINTS
Monday, April 28th:
Script
At the end of the day on Friday you will turn in a completed script. Keep in mind that if you’re away from school on a school sponsored activity this will be due before you depart. (30 points)
Once the script is completed it’s time to move on to the creation of a storyboard for your presentation. This will match up your script with the images you have selected to help tell your tale. This should be considered to be homework and will be due on Wednesday, April 30th.
Wednesday, April 30th
Storyboard
I will collect your completed storyboard of your Personal Tale at the end of class. During class we will work on building the slides for the presentation in PowerPoint. You are to save this presentation in your heritage student work file as YOUR NAME PT03.
This storyboard is worth 40 points. Remember, if your away on school business it must be turn in before you depart.
Friday, May 2nd :
This will be your last scheduled class in the computer lab. At the end of the period I expect to see completed PowerPoint presentations. You will go to your print options and print your presentation slides using the six per page option. The last possible day that I will accept the printed slides will be at 3:30pm on Tuesday, May 6th. Total value for the printed slides is 25 points.
