There we designed, built and repaired a variety of craft from lighthouse tenders for the Marine Department, cray fishing boats for the Chatham Islands, passenger ferries for the Sounds and pleasure craft.
In conjunction with this we operated two slipways and a fuel dock, undertook repairs and maintenance. We also had a brokerage arm and surveyed craft as requested. We were agents for Mercury, Perkins, Volvo Penta, Epiglass and International Paints for the top of the South island.
In the mid 70s I moved to Auckland where I initially worked for John Lidgard Yachts and Compass Yachts to understand the Auckland marine industry and GRP construction.
