Garland C. “Gary” Moore served as District 6910 Governor for Rotary Year 2008-2009, and some of the notable achievements during his tenure were:
ROTARY FELLOWSHIP - Promoted fun with “Best Dessert in District” contest – winners served at District Conference
ROTARY TRAINING - Introduced Rotary Leadership Institute and District Leadership Academy to District’sRotarians
RECOGNITION FROM ROTARY INTERNATIONAL - District, 40 Rotary Clubs and 8 Interact Clubs received the 2008-2009
RI Presidential Citation , and one club received both the RI Best Cooperative Projects Award and the RI Significant
Achievement Award for Second Harvest project
MEMBERSHIP DEVELOPMENT AND RETENTION - Expanded the District from 67 Rotary Clubs to 69 Rotary Clubs and
introduced “Rotarian Sponsor Pins” to promote membership development
PUBLIC RELATIONS - Produced a local television commercial with a Rotary International Public Relations Grant and placed two
floats in the Dolly Parton Homecoming Parade during District Conference

- Exceeded it’s 3-year $201,000.00PolioPlus Campaign Challenge goal in 1-year with $222,336.00

An “Army brat” born at Fort Riley, Kansas, Garyserved 12 years in the U.S. Army, and was later a Government Relations consultant for four and one-half years where he focused on site selections, plant openings and closings, literacy solutionsand lobbying on a nationwide basis. A part-time judge for both the Rockdale County Magistrate Court and the Conyers Municipal Court, Gary isa criminal defense/family lawattorney who has represented clients in 73 Georgia counties, plus Alabama, Arizona, California and North Carolina.
Under the G.I. Bill, Gary earned both his undergraduate degree in Political Science from the University of Georgia and his law degree from Georgia State University College of Law.
An Eagle Scout, Gary has served as Chair of the Eagle Scout Board of Review and past District Commissioner for the Boy Scouts of America’s Atlanta Area Council’s Yellow River District (Newton and Rockdale Counties), and he presently serves as Chair of the Merit Badge Committee for the Yellow River District. Garyis a past recipient of the B.S.A. District Award of Merit (2002) and the International Fellowship of Scouting Rotarian’s Cliff Dochterman Rotary and Scouting Service Award (2011).
Gary has also served as a Junior Vice Commander for Conyers’ American Legion Post77 (and is to be the featured guest speaker at the 2012 Veteran’s Day Ceremonies), was named an “Outstanding Georgia Citizen” by former Georgia Secretary of State Max Cleland, was recognized for his service by both the Georgia Department of Labor andthe Georgia Department of Human Resources, was a Director for the Georgia Institute for Community Business Development, and was once voted “Favorite Attorney” in the Rockdale Citizen’s reader’s poll.
Gary and his wife Irene have been married 31 years, and their daughter Carey earned a Masters Degree in Music Performance (Flute) at the Longy School of Music,Cambridge, MA.
Having joined Rotary on November 27,1996, Gary and Irene are both Rotary Foundation Major Donors andtheir daughter is a Paul Harris Fellow;he is also a member of the Paul Harris and the Bequest Societies. Gary is a GRSP Kendall Weisiger Fellow and wife Irene and daughter Carey are both Will Watt Fellows.
Gary led the successful effort to obtain a Rotary International Commemorative License Plate in Georgia in 2004.
He has been awarded The Rotary Foundation’s Citation for Meritorious Service, three Rotary Foundation District Service Awards, Rotary International’s Four Avenues of Service Citation for Individual Rotarians, a 16 year Perfect Attendance Award, as well as his home club’s 2009 “Pat Atkins” Service Above Self” Awardand 2005 “Service Above Self” Award
Gary is alife member of the (1) International Fellowship of Scouting Rotarians, (2) International Fellowship of Rotarian Convention Goers, (3) Rotarian’s Wine Appreciation Fellowship, (4) Rotarian Action Group for Population and Development, and a member of the (5) Rotary Global History Fellowship.
Gary has attended eightRotary Internationalconventions in Buenos Aires, Argentina (2000), San Antonio, Texas (2001), Brisbane, Australia (2003), Chicago, Illinois (2005), Salt Lake City, Utah (2007), Los Angeles, California (2008), Birmingham, England (2009), and New Orleans, Louisiana (2011).
Garyalso has make-ups from Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Rotary Club/One in Chicago,as well as Argentina, Australia, Bahamas, England, Kenya, New Zealand and Trinidad. He is planning a make up at the Rotary Club of Wallingford, Vermont in October, 2012 – home of Paul Harris’ “Little Red School House.”
