Outstanding Service Awards for Tertiary Students 2012/2013
Aim:
To encourage students to develop leadership and life-long commitment in the provision of services to the community
Eligibility:
Full-time students of University Grants Committee - funded sub-degree, undergraduate or postgraduate programmes from CityU, HKBU, LU, CUHK, HKIEd, PolyU, HKUST and HKU and all students from HKSYU with proven leadership and organizational skills and demonstrable record in the provision of services to fellow students, schools /tertiary institutions and/or the community; active participation in extra-curricular activities, and; satisfactory performance in public examinations and current programme of study
(Remark: Previous recipients of the captioned Awards and incoming exchange students are not eligible to apply.)
Awards:
A maximum of 20 awards with cash prize and certificate

Application

Completed application forms must be submitted to HKUST Connect office at Room 5016 (Lift 3) by 5 April 2013 (Friday). For enquiries, please contact HKUST Connect ( or 2358 5850.)

Applicants should complete all relevant sections of the form and strictly follow the format required. Any alternation of the application form may lead to disqualification of the application.

Interview

Applicants will be short-listed for interview according to the following criteria:

(1)  Proven leadership and organizational ability in the provision of service to fellow students, tertiary institutions attending, needy people or the community

(2)  Demonstrable record in provision of service in an on-going manner

(3)  Active participation in extra-curricular activities

Short-listed applicants will be invited to attend an interview on 20 or 27 April 2013 by phone or email in mid-April. Applicants who do not receive invitation to interview can consider their application unsuccessful. Unsuccessful applicants will not be notified of the result.

The interview panel will be formed by distinguished guests, representatives of various tertiary institutions and past awardees. A maximum of 20 students will be selected from the interview for the Award.

Orientation & Training Programme

An orientation & training programme will be arranged for the selected candidates. The details will be announced after the interview.

Service Project

Apart from being recognition of achievement, the Award serves a platform gathering tertiary students from various institutions with outstanding achievements and leadership in services. As a commitment to continue serving the community, all selected candidates have to work on a service project together during May to August 2013. The details will be announced after the interview.

Award Presentation & Dinner

Upon satisfactory completion of the Orientation & Training Programme and Service Project, selected candidates will receive the Award at the Award Presentation Ceremony & Dinner in September 2013 (tentative).

Failure in completing the Orientation & Training Programme and/or Service Project may lead to disqualification of the candidacy.

Membership of Hong Kong Outstanding Tertiary Students’ Services Association (HKOTSSA)

All awardees will be invited to join HKOTSSA, which is an Association founded by past awardees of the Outstanding Service Awards for Tertiary Students. HKOTSSA will organize activities for members, including opportunities to meet alumni and advisors who have rich experiences in community services.
