Newport Canal Day gOctober 1, 2011
Newport Revitalization and Preservation Society (NRPS), in conjunction with the Newport Borough Council, is organizing the next annual Newport Canal Day on Saturday, October 1stfrom 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Each year is a BIG SUCCESS! Second Street will be closed to traffic between Catherine and Dock Streets. The square will be lined with food vendors, local merchants, artisans and crafts people displaying their wares.
We will be providing entertainment, live music and children’s activities. We are pleased to announce that Special Friends will be included in the lineup again this year. The day will begin with a Newport High School Pep Rally. The Louise Beard Memorial and Museum will be open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Newport Canal Day will be held rain or shine. This event will be promoted through local newspapers and other media outlets. There are 55 spaces available throughout the square. Spaces cost $25 and are approximately 12 feet long and 10 feet deep. Electricity is available on a limited basis. The fee for this service is $10. Please send a space reservation form to use by August 31st to ensure a space. Spaces are assigned on a first come first served basis. Confirmation of your space along with its location will be sent to you by September 19th.
On the day of the event, set up time will be from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. Tables and chairs are not provided. All vehicles must be removed from the square by 8:30 a.m. Parking will be available along nearby streets and alleys.
