Christian Financial Credit Union awards $4,000 in scholarships to local students

Christian Financial assists students with spiraling education expenses

ROSEVILLE, Mich., (June 11, 2014) –With the cost of tuition continuously rising for students each year, Christian Financial Credit Union has once again reached out to help area students with college expenses, awarding $4,000 in scholarships to eight local students.

“The costs to attain a collegiate education can be overwhelming, which is why we want to help offset those expenses,” said Patty Campbell, president and CEO of Christian Financial Credit Union. “The students selected for scholarships this year showcase our region’s intelligence and creativity, and we wish them the best of luck in their educational journeys.”

Christian Financial held a “Take CFCU 2 Your U” Instagramscholarshipcompetition this year to encourage creativity among its student members. This year’s first place winner of a $1,000 scholarshipwasRyan Desalvio of St. Clair, a Purdue University student pursuing a degree in computer science. Runners up and winners of a $500 scholarship each included Natalie Rembisz, a current linguistics student at Grand Valley State University and Jeriel Harris, a Macomb Community College student studying media and communication arts. This year’s “Take CFCU 2 Your U”scholarship winners submitted photos via Instagram to represent how they plan to take their CFCU account with them to school in the fall. All photos were reviewed by a committee and judged based on photo content, accuracy, quality and creativity.

In addition to the Instagram competition, Christian Financial granted a total of $2,000 in scholarships to deserving students at Catholic schools in the area. This year’s Catholic school scholarship winners include Carolyn Ridella and Natalia Boyko, graduates of Regina High School, James Stehlin and Paul DiTrapani, graduates of De La Salle High School, and Madison Southers, a graduate of Cardinal Mooney Catholic High School.

Scholarship winners at De La Salle, Cardinal Mooney and Regina High Schools are chosen by each respective school. Students are evaluatedon merit, community service, academic accomplishments and outstanding leadership. Christian Financial offers these scholarships annually to area students.
