Name ______
Function Machine Project
You will create a function machine along with an input/output table and a graph of a given function.
Art Part: Re-Purpose a box to look like an in/out machine. You should have an "in slot" labeled and an "out slot" labeled along with a title for your machine. "The function machine" is not a creative title.
Mathematician Part: Create the input/output table on a full page. The table should have at least 5 inputs ( any numbers 5 in a row between 0 and 9) and should go in order from least to greatest. It should relate directly to the Function Machine. Please include the following columns:
input (x), function rule, output (y), and the ordered pair (x,y).
Graphing Part: Create a neat, clear, and accurate graph of the function. Axes should be labeled, as well as all coordinates from the table plotted and labeled clearly on the line. This means you should have the same 10 input/outputs from the table plotted onto your graph.
No pencil on the final project! (colored pencil is OK). Youcan type (at home) or hand write in pen/marker.

FUNCTION MACHINE PROJECT
Name:______Title of Project:______
You will be graded using the following rubric. The project is worth 25 points and will count as a quiz grade. It is due at the end of class on February 11, 2014.
Neatness / 5Project is organized and creatively put together. All parts are neat. No pencil was used on final project. / 3
Project lacks organization and creativity. Pencil may have been used. / 1
Project is not complete or it is put together poorly.
No creativity used.
Images of Function Machine and title (Art Part) / 5
Re-Purposed box is clear and relevant to the Function Machine.
Title is creative and prominent. / 3
Re-Purposed box is poor quality or missing some parts
Title is generic. / 1
Re-Purposed box is missing parts...including no title, in/out labels, in/out slots, index cards
Example Input/Output table (Mathematician) / 5
Table is clear, neat, has a minimum of 5 inputs/ outputs from numbers 0-9.
The rule is included. / 3
Table is unclear, has 4 or fewer inputs, and missing parts / 1
Table is missing, does not have all parts or contains major mistakes or misconceptions.
Graph of the function
(Grapher) / 5
Graph of the function is on a full piece of graph paper. Axes are correctly labeled. All coordinates from the table are plotted and labeled. / 3
Graph of the function is on a full piece of graph paper, but may not have the coordinates labeled. / 1
Graph is drawn but not labeled...mistakes
