Is This War?

Mr. Feric and class

Our world is on the precipice of war and the final push may just have come.On July 23, 1914, inBelgrade, Serbia, the Austrian Minister, Baron Giesl von Gieslingenpresented an ultimatum from the Austro-Hungarian government to the Serbian government in response to the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. Austria-Hungarydemanded from the Serbian state to formally and publicly condemn the dangerous propaganda against Austria-Hungary and hand over all people implicated in the murder of Franz Ferdinand.

The Serbian government is unlikely to accept the ultimatum according toSerbian Major Voja Tankosić, sho publicly stated, “We will never comply!” Even the Serbian Prime Minister Nikola Pašić seemed worried in his public address, fretting that, “We hope that this can be resolved peacefully, but that hope is quickly fading.”

Austria and her allies seem poised to lash out at Serbia if the Austrian Minister, Baron Giesl von Gieslingen’s words are any indication, ““If no unconditionally positive answer is received by the Serbian government within the 48-hour deadline of the ultimatum I’ve been told to leave the Austro-Hungarian Embassy of Belgrade together with all my personnel.” War seems to be on the horizon.
