Guidelines for Assignment of Space in the Faculty Support and
Storage Facility at the Plant Science Research and Education Unit
Faculty Support Facility
Due to increased research activities and demand for space at the Plant Science Research and Education Unit the Executive Committee of the Advisory Council has assumed the responsibilities of space assignment in the Faculty Support and Storage Facilities at the Unit. There are a total of 13 spaces in the faculty support building and 37 spaces (10 large (20 x 25) and 25 small (10 x 16)) in the storage facility. In order to equitably serve the needs of the faculty, criteria have been developed for space assignment. Faculty support space is divided into office and dirty lab space. Office space should be used by faculty and technical personnel for administrative activities. Dirty lab space should be used for prep activities for active research activities at the Plant Science Unit. Dirty lab space should not be used for storage, only those items that are used in the day to day activities should be housed in the faculty support space. Equipment and supplies that are in-between field use should be stored in the storage facility.
Fire Marshall Regulations prohibit the storage of the following in the Faculty Support Facility:
1) Motorized Equipment
2) Flammable Liquids of any type
3) Compressed Gas
4) Fertilizer
5) Pesticides
Criteria for Space Assignment at the Plant Science Research and Education Center
First Priority - Faculty having research activities and technical support personnel on site.
Second Priority - Faculty having year around needs for field support at the Unit.
Third Priority - Faculty having short term or seasonal requirements.
Due to limited space in the Faculty Support Facility (13) it may be necessary to assign more than one faculty member to a given area. In doing so, the PSREU Executive Advisory Council members will attempt to group research activities which have similar or common goals.
Policy on Removal of Unapproved Items - Following warning of storage of unapproved items in the Faculty Support Facility individuals will be given five (5) days to remove items - after which the unapproved items will be removed and disposed.
Storage Facility
Soon new storage facilities will be available to faculty to store equipment and supplies for their on-going research activities at the Unit. Space will be assigned based on the same criteria as for the Faculty Support Facility. Some examples of the type of things which should be stored in the storage facility follows: Motorized and non-motorized equipment, pots, coolers, paper and plastic bags, harvest boxes, coolers, stakes, plastic sheeting, etc. Fertilizers and pesticides should be stored in their proper facility located at the Unit.
