A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in honor and loving memory of Jack Justin Turner, Ph.D.

WHEREAS, Jack Justin Turner, Ph.D., was born in Langley, Kentucky, to Virgil Osmer "V.O." and Virginia Casey Turner on May 30, 1937. Dr. Turner was the star player for Maytown High School, where he met his wife, Judy. He received his undergraduate education from Berea College and his Ph.D. from the University of Kentucky. He became professor of International Relations at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and was honored with Professor Emeritus status after his retirement; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Turner has deep roots in Kentucky. He expressed his love for the Commonwealth through his acclaimed novels, in which he used his meticulous research into the history of Kentucky to weave compelling historical dramas. He was the author of three published novels, "The Foxes and the Hounds: Big Medicine River Days," "The Sherriff's Murder Cases," and "The Sherriff of Frozen's Murder Cases"; and more of his works will be published posthumously. His love for the Kentucky hill country also inspired his powerful advocacy for the Appalachian region; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Turner is remembered as an inspiring professor by his former students and an insightful scholar by his former colleagues. Above all, he treasured his family, devoting himself to Judy Turner, his wife of 51 years; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Turner departed this earthly life on December 29, 2011, at the age of 74, and an entire community joins his friends and family in mourning his loss;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

âSection 1. The Senate does hereby express its most profound sense of sorrow and proffers its sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Jack Justin Turner, Ph.D.

âSection 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor and loving memory of Jack Justin Turner, Ph.D.

âSection 3. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Judy Turner, 1711 Lascassas Rd., Murfreesboro, Tennessee 37130.
