GREEK/ROMAN PROJECT

Choose one of the following projects and have the final version of the project completed and submitted by Thursday, December 5 at the end of class. There are 100 points possible for this assignment.

Option 1:

A science myth is a story that tries to explain the occurrence of a natural phenomenon. Write your own science myth.

Here are some potential topics:

The Origin of the Stars

The Creation of Maple Syrup

How the Salmon Became an Ocean Fish

Be sure to include Greek and or Roman gods/goddesses in your story. Be sure to include elements and attributes of the gods in your description. (Type or neatly hand-write your response 2-3 pages typed length/4-6 pages handwritten)

Option 2:

Write a short paper in which you compare and contrast ancient and modern Olympics. How do the events/activities differ? How are some things still the same? (Type or neatly hand-write your response 2-3 pages typed/4-6 pages handwritten)

Option 3:

Artists have always used myths for their subjects. Goya's painting of Cronus (Saturn) eating his children is such an example. Write an analysis in which you answer the following questions: Were myths meant to be taken as literally as is demonstrated in Goya's painting? Is there a political metaphor involved in the painting? in the original myth? (Type or neatly hand-write your response 2-3 pages typed/5-6 pages handwritten)

Option 4:

Create a drawing of two or more of the Greek and/or Roman gods/goddesses. Within your drawing, include symbols and other characteristics descriptive of the god(s)/goddesses you’ve chosen. In addition, write a ¾ page summary that explains why you chose the god(s)/goddess(es) that you did and how your drawing represents that god(s)/goddess(es)

Option 5:

Patterns of history are present throughout time. Looking at the causes of the fall of the Roman Empire, compare these issues and challenges to the challenges and struggles faced by the United States today. Is the United States in danger of falling as the Roman Empire did? Why/why not? Write a response in which you address this question
