Local Projects

Lottery Calendars

We will be selling lottery calendars for October to raise funds for our scholarships. These will be available at the Ice Cream Social in August. Since we are using the Paddle Raffle to raise funds for our scholarships, we will only do the lottery calendars one time in October.

Sarah Parvin Soccer Fest

The Executive Board approved sending $300 to the Sarah Parvin Foundation for sponsoring “Sarah’s Sweets”. Items needed are 2 x 2 inch brownies, 2 inch Chocolate Chip or Peanut Butter Cookies. Wrap the brownies separately and put 3 cookies in a snack bag. Please deliver your baked goods to Sheryl’s home on July 22 by 5:00. They will be delivered to the Soccer Fields.

Relay for Life

The Executive Board approved sending $250 to the Relay for Life in memory of Kathy Fletcher to Kathy’s Crusaders team.

Eleanor Knoke

You will find the form for recording your volunteer hours included with this Quill. On this form you should list your volunteer hours from July 1, 2015 to June 30, 2016, in any organization including ours. Volunteer organizations would be the hospital, your church, political parties, borough or township boards, Red Cross, Relay for Life, etc. The number would reflect the hours per week in the months indicated on the form. If you have questions, please call Missy Wieand, Judy Guise, or Becky Madden. Bring the form to the picnic or send it to Becky Madden. Her address and phone are included on the form.

Scholarship Winners

Toni Rubic, chair of the Scholarship Committee, awarded our two $1000 Scholarships to Ashley Cochran and Gabrielle Scherff. Ashley plans to attend Alvernia College in Reading and Gabrielle Moravian College in Bethlehem. We hope to meet these girls at our picnic.

BPW/PA

State Convention

Sheryl Nierenberg, Missy Wieand, Karen Creghan, Nancy Werner, and Judy Guise attended the annual convention at the Pittsburgh Marriott Hotel in Cranberry Township. The meetings went quite smoothly and it was nice to have a candidate for each office without needing nominations from the floor. Friday night was the Paddle Raffle. Everyone had a great time – our table had 4 winners. Here we see our gang getting ready to place their quarters in the bucket (picture left). Saturday was the election and installation of officers. Pictured here are the 2016-2017 officers - Diane Lewis, Parliamentarian; Maggie Hildebrand, Treasurer; Jeanie Sluck, Corresponding Secretary; Diane Richard, Recording Secretary; Theresa Rusbosin, Vice-President; Marilyn Tallant, President-Elect; and Susan Vladika. The biggest surprise was District 11 winning the coveted Eleanor Briner Award. Karen proudly holds it in the picture above. District 11’s Young Careerist Candidate, Loretta Pigeon won the Young Careerist Award. Quakertown local won the issues management local organization award for promoting Emily’s theme – “Let Your Light Shine” - for our program with Amanda and the Special Olympics. We also were recognized as a Gold local for our contributions to PA BPW Foundation. Nancy Werner and Judy Guise were recognized as members of the President’s Society.
