PREREQUISITES

None, but BMA I is preferred. Grades 9-12. Students should be comfortable navigating windows, managing files and folders, and have experience working in a Windows environment. Web Design I is a one semester-long course of study.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Students will develop skills that lay the foundation for producing Web-ready communications. Students will learn basic graphic design principles, web site development, and web site re-design strategies.

Project activities focus on developing effective web communications. Students develop a variety of graphical images, logos, banners, websites, and interactive graphics.

Students will also be exposed to the capabilities and structure of basic XHTML coding language.

Students will use Adobe Dreamweaver CS6 software to design, build, and administer Web sites. Students will use Adobe Photoshop CS5.5 software to develop static and interactive graphics. Free trial versions may be downloaded at Each trial will work for one month.

College credit could beavailable through MottCommunity Collegeand Ferris State with a final grade of B or above. These credits are accepted by many other colleges and universities.

COURSE MATERIALS

Textbooks will remain in the classroom. Students who need a textbook to take home may check one out on a day to day basis.

PUNCTUALITY AND ATTENDANCE

Arriving to class on time is important in fostering a professional learning environment. A tardy is accrued if you choose not to be in the classroom when the bell sounds. Good attendance is essential for success in this course. This course will consist of guided practices, discussions, projects,exams, and many other productive proceedings and activities, therefore, student attendance is extremely important. Students perform best academically when they are present and on time. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to obtain and complete whateverwork you missed.

ACADEMIC DISHONESTY

Plagiarizing, cheating, gaining unauthorized access to or tampering with educational materials will not be accepted. Academic dishonesty will be dealt with severely.

All students must complete their own work. All students involved in any work that is copied, forged, forwarded, transferred, or submitted dishonestly will receive an automatic zero for that respective assignment, activity, or project.

EXPECTATIONS

Every student will be held accountable for ALL classroom procedures and for the CAStudent Code of Conduct.

Keep things clean.

  • Consume food and drinks outside of the computer lab.
  • Pick up the area around your workstation and put your materials away each day.

Use appropriate language at all times.

Honor your CA network computer privileges.

Use restrooms and visit lockers before class. Only one student is allowed out of the room at a time. No passes will be given during the first or last fifteen minutes of class.

Stay in your seat until the bell rings. No one is excused until everyone is seated.

ASSIGNMENTS / EVALUATION / ASSESSMENT

Points will be earned for each assignment. Your grade will be determined by dividing the total number of points earned by the total number of points possible.

Class grades are readily available via Parent Web. Progress reports will be available to all parents every week.

Detailed rubrics will be provided for major assignments.

Students are expected to keep up with lessons and projects in class. Assignments and due dates are listed daily.

Late or incomplete work during each unit can be submitted for partial credit in up until the end of that respective unit. Units will commence with testsand / or projects.

If a unit test or project has not been submitted due to an excusedabsence, students will have one extra school day per day of excused absence to complete it without a reduction in grade.

Your final course grade will be earned and calculated as follows:
