JOB TITLE: Behavior SpecialistCLASSIFICATION: Licensed - Salaried

Job Goal (General Description of the position):

The Behavior Specialist provides continuous support to the overall educational environment to make certain it is relationally safe, predictable and a well regulated program.

Minimum Qualifications (include educational requirements and any pre-requisites):

  1. Teaching License or equivalent is preferred
  2. Must have firm understanding of child development, educational practices, including due process. Understanding principles of trauma-informed practices, collaborative problem solving and social-emotional learning is highly desirable.
  3. Must have the ability to conduct functional behavior assessments and develop behavior support plans for improving students’ progress in the school setting.
  4. Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to engage and work closely with a wide range of staff members, students and their families as well as community partners.
  5. Previous experience managing and/or teaching groups of students is strongly preferred.
  6. Satisfactorily perform the requirements of the position as described in the job description.
  7. Possess the emotional and physical stamina to perform duties as required by the designated task except for temporary disability.

Essential Functions:

  1. Collaborates with teachers, instructional assistants, counselors, instructional coaches and administrators to develop and provide support for students with lagging social, emotional and behavioral skills.
  2. Collaborate with teachers in developing a classroom environment, including structure, routines and transitions that supports student regulation for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment.
  3. Assist with Functional Assessment, assessment of lagging classroom skills, and the development of Behavior Support Plans for students in a general education setting.
  4. Utilize data from a variety of sources to document student progress/activities and outcomes.
  5. Provide feedback to student(s), teachers, parents and administrators regarding student progress, expectations and goals.
  6. Teach social, emotional and behavioral skills to identified students.
  7. Meet in collaboration with administration, school counselor and instructional coaches.
  8. Attend staff meetings, PLC’s and in-service trainings as deemed necessary for the position.
  9. Participates in various meetings as needed (SIT, BAT, Parent Conferences, IPS).
  10. Consistent attendance and punctuality.
  11. Other duties as assigned.
