OBJECTIVE
In order to learn to effectively navigate political and legislative processes, it is important for students to understand key structures through which policy is made and to learn about key players in the political process. This assignment gives students an opportunity to identify some of the political figures representing their communities, in preparation for the work we will be doing throughout the course.
The “Who Represents Me in Government” exercise will help to support the course objectives delineated below:
· Explain how social, political, and economic contexts affect the opportunities and limitations of social work practice
· Describe how political and legislative processes influence social welfare policy and program development
· Discuss how social work professionals can affect the formulation, implementation and modification of social policies and service delivery systems
