SEASON 2014-15

SEASON WELCOME

The 2014/15 season is just about to begin, and we face this one with the enthusiasm, expectation and excitement that greets us at this time every year.

As previously stated, I would like to welcome all of our new players and their families, and welcome back our loyal players and their families that have been with us in the past years.

This season we will field 2 under 8 teams, 3 under 10 teams, 2 under 12s, 2 under 14s and 1 under 16 team.

This year, as has been the case most years, we have had to start the season with teams that can still accommodate 1 or 2 more players , just to make numbers a little more comfortable all round. If any of our registered players have mates that are still undecided, or Mums or Dads have friends with kids that may be interested in playing, please don’t think it is too late to get into a side. Don’t hesitate to contact us as we can place them in a team. It will be a win-win situation for everybody if we can get 1 or 2 more players for any or all of our sides.

As you are probably aware, the Boys Town playing fields will be reduced in size shortly, to accommodate a new College auditorium. This means our playing area has been reduced from 3 cricket fields to 2. At the time writing, the Council has not commenced work on the re-laying of the new pitches. We have been assured this will be completed before the upcoming season commences. To date, wet weather has curtailed any efforts to begin work. This will impact on our teams training, so after our coming Coaches and Managers meeting, it will be clearer as to who is training on which night and at what time. Thanks for your patience in this matter, unfortunately it is beyond our control and we really are in the laps of the Gods for the present time.

I would like to offer a big thank you to those parents who have graciously put their hands up to fill in coaching and/or managerial roles this season. I’m sure it will be an enjoyable and rewarding experience for you all.

Thanks to our sponsors (whose names will appear further along in the newsletter) for their ongoing support. If anybody would also like to join in by sponsoring the Club in some capacity, your help will be greatly appreciated. It enables us to give your kids the facilities and equipment necessary to play their cricket at the highest levels they can achieve.

Thanks to our Committee for their ongoing hard work and commitment to the cause and I’m sure the season will hold many enjoyable and entertaining moments for all.

Let the fun begin and enjoy the start to yet another wonderful year of kids’ sport. Play your cricket hard, fair and enjoyably.

Yours, on a sticky wicket.....still. President Pipes.

REGISTRATIONS

Numbers have increased this year to 100 which is great news and we will field 2 more teams this year. We will have the minimum numbers in some teams but I’m sure we will still be very competitive in all grades. We will see the fruits of our recruitment drives in 8s and 10s where we had 4 teams last year and 5 teams this year, in future years in the 12s and 14s.

We could still take a few more players and If you know of anyone interested or you can twist the arm of some friends then steer them our way..

MENS REGISTRATIONS

We are now down to 2 teams this year after peaking in 2011 with 6. Seems there are too many other things to do and people seem to be unhappy with the type of cricket being scheduled. More one dayers and 20/20 they say.

Please contact Mitch Worsley (0488 040 914) or the other mens delegates for enquiries.

FEES

There are still a few fees outstanding so if for any reason you have difficulties please let someone on the committee know and an arrangement will be made.

These people will need all the assistance we can give them during the year as they are all volunteers giving of their time.

You do not need any qualifications to be a manager or help with scoring but the Sutherland Shire Junior Cricket Association requires that all club coaches from U10 to U16 have attended a coaching accreditation course.

For level 1 this is a web based tutorial followed by a face to face course of a very intensive 2 nights. The accreditation is valid for 3 years and is renewed by the club. All costs of the course are borne by the club.

PLAYING DRESS

The Club plays in a coloured shirt which commenced 5 seasons ago and these shirts are available for sale at $25.00 ea. Every child must wear one to play. We also have club hats at $15.00 The baggy caps have become an expensive item and are$45.00 all up so we may need to take orders as we don’t stock too many.

Whites/creams are mandatory including jumpers or Sloppy Joes. Baseball caps are not approved clothing. Runners must be predominately white.

Start thinking about what you might need and advise your coach during training.

SPONSORSHIP

A general thank you to all our sponsors for 2013-14 season as without you we would not be able to meet our cost commitments. Our wholehearted thanks go out to them and may they support us for years to come. So get behind them for the good of our club.

Many years ago sponsorship was unheard of at our club but gradually over the last few years we would never have met the rising costs of running the club without the involvement of sponsors. It is hard for a club such as ours with limited membership and playing numbers to offer our sponsors a great deal for their money. We only ask that you the parents and the heart of our club support our sponsors wherever possible.

A club can’t run effectively without sponsorship and we are no different to any other club. The Sponsor’s dollars go to renewing the kits and equipment that is necessary to give your kids the best opportunity to play and train for cricket. So I offer our Sponsors a sincere thank you for your support and hope you continue with us next season. These Sponsors appear in our newsletter after each match, please support them as their dollars support your kids.

I have attached a list of advantages we can now offer potential sponsors.

MILO in2CRICKET

We will again be organising the program for youngsters interested in a skills development program that runs as a separate program to the actual cricket competition. There wasn’t enough support last year to run this for the entire year and Mark Piper gave of his own time at no cost to parents but there is already some interest around so hopefully we can do it this year.

Whilst we have organised games for U8’s and U10’s, some of our players in these age groups also benefit greatly from the skills development that the program offers. We would also urge players from 6yrs up to register in our U8 competition as we put the younger members together and usually play against teams of similar age and ability.

The MILO in2Cricket sessions will commence some time in October and usually runs until near Xmas. The cost of this has not been set by Cricket NSW yet but anticipated to be around $65. There will be special promotional packs and giveaways for the participants and regular skills development programs usually Friday afternoon but this is yet to be confirmed. Further information will be available the closer we get to the start of the program but you can register on the normal club registration day. More info can be obtained from the Cricket NSW website or our Coordinator Mark Piper. Thanks to Matt Gilmore who will be assisting this year.

CLUB COMMUNICATIONS

The clubs website is . Please make a special of note of this and give us your feedback. We keep this site up to date with all club information, contacts and events that all members should be aware of. We welcome your comments and suggestions on what should be contained there and hope we can develop it further as time goes by. A full list of our sponsors can be seen there with relevant links to their websites where supplied and we encourage you to visit these sites.

There is also the competition website which contains all the club registration details and will provide access to all club members to view results and competition tables and team statistics for both Juniors and Mens competitions. The coaches and managers and committee have special access to team details and statistics but the general public can access match results.

This is also used to send emails to families so it is important to supply your up to date email contact details when you register. I wholeheartedly recommend the use of this site as it provides everything you need to know about the season. It is essential that you make yourself aware (coaches and managers especially) of the rules of the game and the Administrative regulations. They are all downloadable from the website. The teams, draw and results for the Men’s competition are also located on this website.

The Association’s web site is
