Cosmetology

A 1,800 Clock Hour Training Program in the Arts and Sciences of Beauty and Culture

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Successful completion of MCTEC’s 1,800 Clock Hour Cosmetology program qualifies individuals to sit for the WV Board of Barbers and Cosmetologists examination. The first 500 Beginner level hours of the program include lecture, technological presentations, and a hands-on method of acquiring knowledge and skills necessary for pupils to become oriented to and acquire an adept overview of the field of Cosmetology. Once 500 hours have been attained, students are considered Intermediate level and are transitioned to the salon setting to learn, practice, and perfect their skills in a hands-on manner by performing services for actual clients under the guidance of an experienced, certified Instructor of Cosmetology four days a week.

The course of study, as outlined below, is delivered to students by utilizing a variety of learning strategies, which involve self-study, small group learning situations, whole-class instruction, and hands-on training in MCTEC’s salon, which is open to the public Tuesday thru Friday. Individuals who demonstrate self-discipline, consistent attendance, professionalism, dedication to high standards of customer service, and an eagerness to learn and grow will be most successful in this rigorous 1,800 hour training program.
