Caryl Henry-Alexander

Caryl Henry-Alexander has been commissioned to create murals, sculptures, site-specific installations, and paintings both here and abroad. She has exhibited extensively throughout the United States and at the American Cultural Center in Ibadan, Nigeria. Ms. Alexander was a lecturer at the California College of Arts and Crafts and a Master Teaching Artist with the New Jersey State Council on the Arts and the California Arts Council, teaching West African YORUBA Art and Culture and Mixed Media painting. In the summer of 2006 she taught at the Maryland Artist Teacher Institute (MATI).

A teacher’s residency guide forgrades 3-12

Caryl Henry-Alexander:Community Mural/Banner Project

Classroom curriculum and the arts combine to teach participants how to compare, contrast, and translate their ideas into a mural or banner that represents their community.

The Residency

  • A typical residency contains 45-minute workshops for a specified group of students - for example all classes of one grade level or a special needs group.
  • The groups should consist of no more than 25 students each.
  • This residency may be custom designed to address your school’s goals.
