Bloom Ball Information
For the next few weeks, you are going to read a book of your choice (check it out with me first) and complete a Bloom Ball. The Bloom Ball has twelve sides. On each side you will be responsible for completing an activity on each side. Look over the list of options and circle the 12 you will be completing. If there is a * by the choice, it means it is not optional. You may want to type certain parts and handwrite other parts. It is up to you.
*1. Write the title and author of your book in a circle.
*2. Write a book Review
- Look at other book reviews to get an idea of how to write one
- I will be putting these book reviews together for a culminating summer book list for each of you.
*3. Describe the climax of the book
4. Plot Timeline – Create a timeline of events from the story and correctly label the events with their part of plot (plot line).
5. Make “thick” Comprehension questions for the book
6. Write a new introduction or a new conclusion
7. Write a letter to the author
8. Describe a character from your book. Include both physical and personality characteristics in your in your description. Also draw a picture of the character.
9. Find 10 new vocabulary words. Write the word and the definition.
10. Find at least ten examples of figurative language.
11. I am Poem ( Get the sheet from me.)
12. Setting-Using the five senses: seeing, hearing, touching, tasting, smelling; describe the setting of the book. Was the setting a backdrop for the story, or was it a necessary part of the story.
13. Conflict- Conflict Symbol – What is the conflict of the book. Describe it in detail.
14. Theme is the major idea that a writer presents about life. What is the overall “message” about life the author is trying to convey? Themes are usually stated in sentences, not in one word or phrase. What is the theme of the book?
15. Quotation – Include 3 important quotations that are directly related to the overall theme of the book.
16. New Cover Art – Design a new cover for the book. New cover should be related to the book, include many details, and the genre of the book.
Neatly color all parts of your Bloom Ball. Construct the Bloom Ball by folding on the lines and stapling 12 sides together into a ball.
