DISTRACTED DRIVING POLICY

ABC COMPANY is going to be complying with new laws that become effective January 1st, 2015. Our new policy will now prohibiting drivers from using a handheld cellphone and texting while driving.

Therefore: When driving a personal vehicle or company vehicle on company business, employees may not use handheld cell phones or any other mobile electronic devices while operating a motor vehicle. They must utilize a handsfree device for conversations. The handsfree device must only allow a single button to initiate or terminate a voice communication using a mobile phone or engaging in any other form of electronic text retrieval or entry, for present or future communication

This ban includes, but is not limited to, answering or making phone calls, engaging in phone conversations, reading or responding to e-mails and text messages, adjusting a Global Positioning System (GPS), and accessing the internet.

Texting means manually entering alphanumeric text into, or reading text from, an electronic device. This includes, but is not limited to, short message service, e-mailing, instant messaging, a command or request to access a Web page.

These restrictions do not apply to calls made to report an emergency. In all such cases, all cautionary measures should be practiced.
Furthermore, ABC COMPANY will inform our clients, associates and business partners of this of this policy as an explanation of why calls may not be returned immediately.

In conclusion: We are concerned about the safety and well-being of our employees and the community. This is so important that violations of this policy will be considered serious and may result in the imposition of discipline up to and including termination. Below is a Statement of Acknowledgement that says you have read and fully understand this policy. Please sign it and return it to your supervisor by (date).
