Preschool Classroom Update

September 6, 2016

Alphabet Box /

Learning the alphabet takes a lot of practice and repetition. We will use an Alphabet Box to introduce letters to your child with corresponding beginning-sound objects to help your child make the connection between the beginning sounds and objects they can see and feel.

Each child will create their own Alphabet Box to bring objects to school. Please find a shoebox at home and help your child decorate it any way they would like (i.e. color the box, use stickers, glue on colored paper, ribbon or yarn etc.). Please be sure to put your child’s name onthe box.

EveryFriday will be Alphabet Box day andyour preschooler will bring their Alphabet Box to school filled with objects that begin with our Letter of the Week. Each child will have a turn to share with the class what they have collected in the box. If an item is too big for the box please feel free to put a picture of the item in the Alphabet Box.

Our first Alphabet Box day is Friday, September 16th and the fist letter is A.

Snacks /

Please be sure to provide a healthy morning snack. Please pack only 1 or 2 items for your child.

Extended Day students need to also send in an afternoon snack.

Your child should put the Morning snack in their top plastic cubby and afternoon snacks should be put in the blue plastic basket that will be on Mrs. Lutovsky’s desk.

St. Luke-A-Thon /

A St. Luke-A-Thon packet was sent home last Friday with your child. On Friday, September 30th, all students at St. Luke will walk, skip, dance or run and have fun in the St. Luke-A-Thon while exercising and raising money for the St. Luke Parents’ Club. We are asking parents to help their children complete and send the enclosed letters to friends and family. Please see the packet for more information.

Our class theme will be Seahawks. Please dress your child in Seahawks gear or Seahawk colors.

School Pictures /
School Picture day is this Friday, September 9th. Please see the picture packet that was send home last Friday.
PE Shoes /
We will have PE every Thursday and Friday. Please be sure to send your child to school in running shoes on both days. As you may have heard, our gymnasium is getting a new hard wood floor installed and the work will not be completed until the end of October. We will still have PE, but it will be outside so you will also want to make sure your kids have their school sweatshirts to keep warm.
Rain Gear /
We will take our class out for recess rain or shine, so please make sure to send in a rain jacket on our rainy days. Your child may wear rain boots to school but please send in a regular pair of shoes to wear in the classroom.
Class Parties & Field Trip Fund /
We are asking each family to contribute $25 to our Class Party & Field Trip fund. This was included on our school supply list. Thank you to those who have already Contributed. We will use these funds for the class parties we will have throughout the year and well as for our on-site field trips. We do not leave the school for field trips, but instead bring in specialists to talk to our class.
Comfort Letters /

In the event of an emergency, our classroom has a ‘Grab and Go’ backpack that contains basic safety supplies that comes with us if we have to leave the classroom. To ease the anxiety of your child during an emergency, we are asking you to write a letter of comfort from you to your child. The letter should acknowledge that you and your child may be separated for a while, but you will come get them as soon as it is safe. It is helpful to include a picture of your family and/or pets. Please place your child’s letter in an envelope marked with their name. The envelopes will be stored in the ‘Grab and Go’ backpack. We are looking forward to the rest of the week. Feel free to email with any questions or comments.
