Best Practices – MAP Implementation

  1. Log-into all computers and devices at least a week prior to the test window.
  • Check computers, lap-tops, iPads, Chromebooks, pcs, etc. Make certain that they are current with any software updates.
  1. On student computers: Confirm one of the two testing options are available prior to testing:
  2. Load the Lock-down browser to each student computer for secure testing. OR…
  3. Open student test website, test.mapnwea.org, with either, Chrome, Firefox, or Safari.
  4. Allow Pop-ups for the webpage
  5. Save a bookmark for easy access when testing starts.

Note: Choosing to use the MAP lockdown browseris a per school configuration option.If Internet Explorer is your only browser, you must load the lock-down browser.

  1. On proctor computer: Verify access to the NWEA MAP site – MARC (teach.mapwea.org)

If you do not know your password, use the “Forgot Username or Password” link.

  • Do any of the following optional tasks to assist in making proctoring a test easier.
  • Bookmark this page on your computer for easy access.
  • Review the MAP Help Center and look at:
  • Video Tutorials – especially the proctor practice video
  • Proctor Tips and Trouble Shooting – 6 pages, to print and have ready during testing
  • All-inclusive Proctor Guide – 23 pages.

To Prepare Students to Test

  • Warmup Video:Consider showing students a video that explains how MAP helps them grow.
  • For MAP tests:

  • When introducing the MAP assessment to your students read the NWEA created script, or consider sharing the following key points:
  • Give this test your best effort
  • This is not a timed test. Students will have enough time to read and answer all the questions
  • If the answer is unknown, eliminate some options and select the best one of the remaining choices
  • Once Next is selected or Enter key is pressed, the answer to that question cannot be changed
  • If the onscreen calculator appears with a test question, click on it to use it
  • Use the scroll bar on the right side if the reading passage is too long. Do not skip any reading questions.
