ACES ACADEMY FOR GLOBAL ENGAGEMENT

PARTNERSHIPS FOR GLOBAL IMPACT

The ACES Office of International Programs (OIP) seeksto strengthen existing international programs and introduce additional faculty into them by supporting partnerships of ACES scholars to conduct impactful work through the 2017/2018 Global Academy: Partnerships for Global Impact Program.

ACES-OIP intends to select and fund two-person teams in which one member, the “mentoring partner”, will introduce the other to an existing international engagement and through the process broaden that engagement or provide capacity for the “mentored partner” to develop his or her own program.

The 2017/2018 Global Academy: Partnerships for Global Impact Programis to consist of three to five two-person teams and will provide a forum for participants to build skills and knowledge about international work. Through a series of required on-campus sessions, participants will receive expert advice and opportunities for peer learning about issues such as: building and maintaining international partnerships; securing support for international work; managing business and financial aspects of international work; minimizing family disruptions while engaging in international activities; and using campus resources for international activities. Funding will be provided to allow those experienced in international activities to introduce a mentored partner to their international programs and ideally integrate the partner into the work in some way.

The program will begin in October 2017 with a series on on-campus seminars and roundtable discussions. Participating teams may receive up to $10,000 to support international travel and activities that promise to broaden the scope of an existing international engagement or provide a meaningful foundation for developing new international activities. These funds will be allocated in December 2017 based on work plans that teams develop during the first three months of the program. Funds are to be used during calendar year 2018.

Application Process: Applications should be submitted by two-person teams with mentoring and mentored partners. Participants in past Global Academy programs are eligible to serve as mentoring partners, as are any other ACES faculty members with substantive international experience. Faculty members of any rank may participate in a team as either the mentoring or mentored partners. We encourage (but do not require): interdisciplinary research teams; teams of faculty at different ranks; teams that combine multiple elements of extension, research, and teaching; and partnerships that can qualitatively enhance an existing program. The application deadline is September 15, 2017.

Selection Criteria: Selection into this program will be based on: thepotential for the proposed partnership to expand participation in international activities in ACES;the expected impact of theinternational activities; and the potential for the proposed partners to contribute to the collective experience of the full cohort through engagement in on-campus activities.
