BUILDING PERMIT PROCEDURES FOR THE CITY OF RICEVILLE
- Approval from Building Permit Committee on all exterior structures is required before construction/repair is begun. The Committee meets once a week and paperwork must be submitted to the City Clerk by the Friday prior.
- A drawing is required showing the lay out of property lines, street names, existing structures and the proposed structures. Measurements showing the distance from the property line to the proposed structure must be displayed.
- Estimated costs of the building structure are required and will be listed on the building permit for the County Assessor’s Office.
- Place stakes in the ground showing the size and placement of the proposed structure so the Committee can identify the location easily.
- A building permit is needed for any exterior structure constructed in a permanent manner this includes fences, decks, breezeways, porches, storage sheds and repair of same along with moving any structure onto a property. Building permit is good for one year. Permit must be returned to the City Office, 123 W Main St. If you have any questions call (641) 985-2367.
- Always call Iowa One Call (800-292-8989) before digging. All utility services will locate underground service lines on your property without any charge.
- Tax Abatement – You may be eligible for a Tax Abatement if building improvements total more than 10% of your property valuation as determined by the county Assessor’s Office. Application forms are available from the City Clerk and must be approved via motion of the City Council.
