BANKING Experience / 4.  Banking Related Position:
  • Managing Director/Founder President’ 1971-76 Progressive Co-operative Bank Ltd.' Championed the cause of entrepreneurship and small enterprises and micro-entrepreneur and Venture Creation in the face of nationalization. In 1971 engineered a strategy to open branches, mobilizing deposits by moving closer to the customers by opening “pay offices”. No products existed oriented towards collateral free financing. Some of its products are listed below:
1.  The bank placed special emphasis on staff training and established a “Staff Training Institute” within the bank.
2.  “Mutual Investment Account” whereby matching amount was invested with entrepreneurs in micro/small firms for venture creation and venture financing.
3.  It was the first bank in Pakistan to introduce a “Women’s branch” in 1975. These bankers were trained at the Staff Training Institute and it empowered women to be banker and also empowered women to do banking with banks. Until this moment women as depositors or customers were not seriously targeted. It started a new trend of banking and inhibition in women to deal with banks was reduced. Women were happy to have their own private accounts without the influence of their men folks.
4.  “Saving & Investment Advisory Services” was another successful services by this bank.
5.  “Daily Balance Pass Book Saving Account” was introduced to promote the mobilization of deposits from small entrepreneurs.
  • Manager: United Bank' 1966-69 (Leading Commercial Bank 3-years) Opened new branches in interior Punjab & acted as Area Manager in Mianwali.
  • Manager: Habib Bank' 1969-71 (Leading Commercial Bank in Pakistan 3-yrs) Banking Development activities in Lahore and Manager of branch on Mall Road, Commercial Building.

SENIOR CONSULTANT: / ¥  USAID PROJECT EMPOWER PAKISTAN: 2009
  • USAID Project Empower Pakistan (2009) as consultant carried out survey of Karachi to discover potential of business and investment opportunity for economic development of Pakistan. This involved focus group at the Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce & Industry, another at Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry and another at Korangi Industrial Association (KATI) besides personal interviews with presidents of banks, presidents of investment companies, leasing companies, owners of Industrial projects. Report submitted to USAID.
¥  PUNJAB EDUCATION FOUNDATION: APRIL 2007 TO OCTOBER2008:
  • The Punjab Education Foundation consultant for the training of the Principals and Headmasters, which was called “School Leaders Development Program”. It was expected to develop educational leadership among the principals and headmasters. Conducted training for the primary school teachers across Punjab. Three subjects were required to be taught: English, Math’s and Science. This program was called “Cluster Based Primary Teachers Training”.
  • All these programs were designed and conducted within the period from April 2007 to October 2008.
¥  Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI): Consultant 2007:
  • Re-Engineering and Human Resource Development at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (2007) reorganized the R and D department and the structure of LCCI: Prepared the new Vision and the Mission Statement of the Chamber for approval. Created the Operations Division and the R & D Division and prepared the SOP of all Departments: Implemented the TQM procedures and practices through extensive trainings of the entire staff affected.
¥  EU-HTSPE Survey of BDSP for Capacity Building BDS Expert: 2005 to 2006
  • Project commissioned by the European Union; As SME Business Development Services (BDS) Expert training and Capacity Building of
  • BDS Providers of selected consultants as BDSP: and developing a forum and a Directory of BDSP in Pakistan and Creating Support System for Small Enterprises in Pakistan. The overall objectives to enable availability of affordable, accessible and sustainable BDS/BSS for the SMEs in Pakistan
¥  International Youth Foundation IYF/USAID: Consultancy – 2006
  • A Provincial Survey of Punjab Vocational Training Council (PVTC) on behalf of International Youth Foundation (IYF) funded by USAID. A study to determine the success factor behind the creation of 139 Vocational Training Institutes of the PVTC run on the utilization of Zakat fund for the purpose of education of the deserving (Mustakheen-e-Zakat) and developing prospect of Entrepreneurship.
