Collection Title:West Delta Chapter of American Red Cross
Collection Number:
Inclusive Dates:1917 – 2007
Bulk Dates:1938 - 2004
Volume:20 Cubic Feet
Processor:E. Weaver and W. Ray
Scope and Content:
The West Delta Chapter of the American Red Cross Collection contains the history of the chapter, Minutes of the Chapter, and Annual Reports. There are scrapbooks containing news clippings and radio broadcasts during the period 1938 to 1953. News clippings also represent Red Cross’ assistance during periods of disasters across the United States, during the war, as well as general information and other printed matter pertaining to Red Cross. Fund raising efforts are a part of this collection as shown in dinner theater booklets, news clippings, video, recordings and photos. Also included in the collection are numerous photographs, flags, certificates, as well as a uniform and pins worn by the nurses of Red Cross. Aside from the physical care that Red Cross delivers, it has touched many lives through its outreach in the military hospitals through its recreation program. A portion of this collection comes from the private collection of Miss Hattie Breland who worked in the recreation department for 26 years and helped to bring about songs, skits, plays, and games that were used in hospital wards throughout the United States and Tokyo.
