If I have not completed the continuing education requirement, may I renew my license? / A license may be renewed only if the applicant has completed the continuing competency requirement per the Code of Maryland Regulation (COMAR) 10.46.04.
Is a time extension available for completion of the continuing competency requirement? / A written request must be submitted to the Board for consideration prior to the deadline for completion of continuing education, i.e., December 31, 2003.
Do I need to submit documentation of the continuing education I’ve completed? / No. Simply sign the renewal form affirming your completion of the requirement and maintain your documentation for a period of 4 years.
What would be the consequence of falsely attesting to completing the continuing education? / Submission of any false statement may result in formal disciplinary action by the Board.
What are my options if I have failed to complete the continuing competency requirement? / If you have failed to meet the December 31st deadline for completion of the required continuing education, you may be eligible to reinstate your license after it expires on June 30, 2004.

What are the steps for renewing my occupational therapy assistant license in a timely manner? / Submit the following information postmarked on or before May 31, 2004:
  • Completed Renewal Application Form;
Payment of $210 renewal fee.
What is the late fee? / The late fee is $100 and must be included with applications postmarked after May 31, 2004, but before July 1, 2004.
If my application is returned to me as incomplete, may I resubmit it? / Yes, however incomplete applications will not be recorded as received until complete information is submitted. This process may result in a late fee being assessed.
How may I be certain that your office has received my application? / You may refer to the Board’s website: A roster of licensees active through 2006 will reflect renewal applications received and processed by the Board.
What if I sent my application, but the Board office did not receive it? / It is recommended that applicants maintain a copy of documents submitted as well as receipt(s) for postage, and receipt(s) for payment such as a certified check receipt or money order.
I am confused by the question on Worker’s Compensation. Can you clarify? / Box (a) will be the appropriate box for most applicants to check. The language is required to ensure that licensees who are also employers comply with worker’s compensation requirements.
How do I apply for reinstatement? / The following information must be submitted for review by the Board:
  • Completed reinstatement application form;
  • Original verification of initial certification or examination from NBCOT (301-990-7979);
  • Payment of $450 fee;
  • Original verification documentation from any other states/countries in which you are/were licensed; and,
  • Continuing Competency Documentation of applicable contact hours.

If I allow my license to expire and apply for reinstatement, when may I practice occupational therapy again in the State of Maryland? / Following a June 30th expiration of licensure, the earliest possible date would be after the 3rd Friday in July. A completed reinstatement application is to be submitted for Board review 2 days prior to the Board meeting.
I’ve heard about a new law on tax compliance. Does this effect occupational therapy licensure? / Yes. Beginning July 1, 2003, state agencies must verify that an applicant for renewal has paid, or satisfactorily arranged for the payment of delinquent state taxes before the license can be renewed.
