JOB TITLE: TAP – MASTER TEACHER

REPORTS TO: District Report -- Director of Professional Development

Direct Report – School Principal

OVERVIEW:

The TAP (Teacher Advancement Program) Master Teacher primary role is with the principal, to analyze student data and create and institute an academic achievement plan for the school. Master teachers lead cluster groups and provide demonstration lessons, coaching, and team teaching to TAP (Teacher Advancement Program) mentor and career teachers. Master teachers collaborate to determine and develop the adoption of learning resources. They are partners with the principal in evaluating other teachers.

QUALIFICATIONS:

•  meets the criteria of a highly qualified teacher with Arizona certification and at least 5 years of successful classroom teaching experience

•  effective in communication, planning, organization, presentation, and leadership skills; able to work with and motivate others

•  demonstrates knowledge and understanding of content, curriculum development, professional development, effective coaching and instructional strategies and research-based best practices

•  ability to plan and present information and training for the adult learner

•  understands the purpose and specifics of core, supplemental, and intervention programs and serves as a guide to the staff to effectively implement these programs

•  models direct, explicit systematic instruction including effective teaching techniques and strategies

•  understands and interprets assessment data, both formal and informal, to inform instructional decisions and the school academic achievement plan

•  increases and enhances own professional knowledge, skills, and expertise about effective instruction, assessment, and school improvement

•  experience working with site-based teams

•  able to work effectively and efficiently without constant supervision and under stressful timelines

•  demonstrates knowledge of national, state, and district standards and trends concerning instructional methods, resources, and strategies

•  demonstrates proficiency with technology including presentation equipment, word processing and desktop publishing; and a willingness to innovatively use technology

•  able to perform moderate physical tasks

•  able and willing to work outside the traditional working hours and calendar of teachers, including evenings, weekends, and summers

•  exhibits professional attitude, appearance, and demeanor

•  demonstrates excellent communication skills

DISTRICT DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The TAP Master teacher works in conjunction with district leadership and various departments to enhance teacher effectiveness and student achievement. The Master Teacher:

·  supports the goals, objectives, strategies, and programs of the district

·  is a communication link between the district and school sites

·  develops and/or provides professional development

·  assists the alignment of standards/curriculum with related instructional materials, strategies, and activities

·  attends district-level and all TAP meetings and trainings

·  works additional days beyond the school year

·  completes other duties as assigned

SCHOOL SITE RESPONSIBILITIES:

The TAP Master teacher works with the principal to implement, support, mentor, and facilitate in the areas of curriculum, instruction, and assessment. The Master Teacher:

·  assists and supports staff (principals, teachers, and assistants) in providing effective instruction and improving student achievement

·  analyzes school-wide student data as the basis for developing a school academic achievement plan utilizing the TAP process

·  conducts classroom evaluations and conferencing for both formal and informal observations

·  assists the principal with TAP evaluations and maintains inter-rater reliability

·  monitors goal setting, activities, classroom follow-up, and goal attainment for cluster meetings and teacher Individual Growth Plans (IGPs)

·  analyzes student data to identify student learning goals

·  observes and provides peer assistance and coaching toward meeting teachers’ IGP goals

·  leads the design and delivery of research-based professional development for cluster groups by presenting new learning with field-tested evidence of increased student achievement

·  oversees groups of teachers in developing goals, provides instructional interventions with proven results, facilitates teacher proficiency with these new strategies through classroom-based follow-up, and ensures that the progression of teacher skill development is aligned with changing student learning needs

·  completes other duties as assigned as required by the principal and TAP Guide for the Master Teacher
