Neuromodulation Innovation Grants (FY 2015)

Apply now for MnDRIVE Brain Conditions Neuromodulation Innovation Grants. The purpose of these grants is to encourage the establishment of teams and projects that will generate preliminary data for external funding submissions or facilitate industry partnerships in the area of neuromodulation.
The objective is to support transformative ideas in neuromodulation that engage multiple disciplines, industry partners, or NGOs to address unmet needs. The maximum award will be $100,000 to $150,000. We expect to fund 4-6 grants. Recipients will have up to two years to complete projects.
PIs must be University of Minnesota faculty with N, P, I, J, or K appointments (or W at the Minneapolis VAMC). Co-I’s may be University faculty, industry or non-government organization (NGO) representatives, or community partners.
A progress report is expected at 6 months and halfway through the project period (with continued funding contingent on progress). A final report is also due at the end of the award. Recipients of the awards will be expected to submit a minimum of one proposal to major external funding agencies (e.g., NIH, NSF) or apply for industry grants to extend the work initiated through these awards.
Equipment proposals will not be considered. A small portion of faculty salary may be requested.
The submission deadline is Monday, January 5th, 2015 with decisions to be made by mid-February, 2015.
How to submit an application:
Please submit the following required information (font and margins should be no smaller than 11 pt., and 0.5 inches, respectively):
o Project Coversheet (1 page – see next page)
o Project description with timeline, key milestones, expected outcomes and deliverables (2 pages)
o Statement that specifies the project’s significance and potential impact, how the project advances the field of neuromodulation, and why the partnership (if there is one) is key to the success of the project (1 page)
o Sustainability plan for the project (what steps have or will be taken to ensure that the work initiated will be sustained or extended) (1/2 page)
o Budget with justifications (1 page)
o References (1 page)
o List of current and pending support, including internal funding
o Industry/NGO partnership letters of collaboration (if applicable)
o 2 page CVs of key personnel
