POSITION:

A tenure-track position in Africana Studies with a specialization in African American history from an Afrocentric perspective, i.e., a theoretical orientation anchored in the global range, interconnections and concerns of the discipline of Africana Studies. We especially welcome candidates whose research interests also include historical linkages and relations between African Americans and Native, Latino and Asian Americans as well as comparative and interdisciplinary approaches.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION:

·  Ph.D. in Black Studies/Africana Studies or related discipline at time of appointment

·  Potential for /Evidence of successful college level teaching

·  Ability to develop and maintain an active program of research and scholarship leading to publication.

·  Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community

DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

·  Academic expertise in the area of African American history from an Afrocentric perspective with grounding in social science methodology and comparative Africana Studies

·  Ability to develop and maintain an active program of research and scholarship

·  Ability to mentor and advise students

·  Ability to develop/ evidence of having developed internships for students in areas related to social change and social policy (race/ethnicity, gender, labor, civil rights, human rights, environment, neighborhood organization, urban studies, etc.)

·  Ability to contribute to the department’s curriculum by taking leadership in developing new courses to give depth and breadth to the department’s offerings in the area of African American history

·  Ability to work in collaboration with other departments both within and outside the College of Liberal Arts.

DUTIES:

·  Teach and help to develop courses in African American history

·  Teach General Education and a range of other courses as needed by the department

·  Engage in scholarly and research activities leading to publication

·  Participate in department, university and community service

·  Assist in mentoring and advising students

·  Assist in the development of internships for students in areas related to social change and social policy.

·  Assist the department, college and campus in developing curricula, pedagogies and programs to meet the needs of a diverse student body

SALARY RANGE: Commensurate with training and experience.

Probable beginning Salary range for Assistant is $ 60,000.00 to $ 62,000.00
