SUMMER CAMP 2016

1.  GENERAL: The 77th Regiment at North Valley Military Institute will conduct a Summer Camp at Camp Pendleton in San Diego during the period 18-28 June 2016.

  1. Each cadet will pay $100 or 1000 merits to attend.
  2. Payment and ALL FORM TURN IN should be accomplished at the Hawk Exchange (HX). Receipts will be given for all cash collected. Checks are not accepted. Credit card payments are also accepted at the HX.
  3. Cadets may make payment in partial cash/credit card and partial merits at the HX.
  4. Cadets are required to submit (1) an application, (2) permission slip, (3) Camp Pendleton Release Form, and (4) Medical History Form with (5) their payment. In the case of cadets participating in the Survival Training Unit, parents must complete an additional STU permission slip which will be made available at the Student Led Conference Survival Parent Briefing only. Cadets participating in the Marksmanship Training Unit, Cadet Ranger School, or Cadet Military Police School must also complete Appendix A: Consent to Participate.
  5. Deadline for forms and a payment of at least $20 or 200 merits is due by 2 April 2016. Applications will only be accepted after that date on a space available basis. Payment of any balance owed is due by 31 May 2016.
  6. There are no academic or citizenship eligibility requirements to attend camp in the Basic NCO course. There are academic and citizenship eligibility requirements for other courses of instruction as noted below.
  7. The following courses are being offered and have prerequisites as noted:
  8. Basic Non-Commissioned Officer course (BNCOC)– for cadets in grades 6-9 in ranks below C/SGT. No prerequisites. Cadets successfully completing this course of study will be eligible for promotion to C/SSG. There is no limit on the number of participants for this course.
  9. Advanced Non-Commissioned Officer course (ANCOC) – for cadets of any grade level in the ranks of C/CPL, C/SGT, or C/SSG who are have passed all NVMI classes first semester and are passing all NVMI classes as of 3rd quarter report cards and who do not have excessive permanent demerits (more than 30 as of 12 March). Cadets successfully completing this course will be eligible to earn promotions to C/SFC or above. This course is capped at 32 participants.
  10. Officer Candidate School (OCS) – for cadets of any grade level in the rank of C/SSG or higher who wish to be commissioned C/2LT or C/WO1. They must have passed all NVMI classes first semester and are passing all NVMI classes as of 3rd quarter report cards and who do not have excessive permanent demerits (more than 30 as of 12 March). Cadets must also have passed the Fitnessgram during 2nd semester 2016. This course is capped at 32 participants.

iv. Cadet Medic School (CMS) – Cadets must be in high school during the 15-16 school year and at least the rank of C/CPL. They must have passed all NVMI classes first semester and are passing all NVMI classes as of 3rd quarter report cards and who do not have excessive permanent demerits (more than 30 as of 12 March). They must also pass the FEMA online course, Introduction to the Incident Command System, prior to 27 May 2016. This course is capped at 24 participants.

v. Survival Training Unit (STU) - Cadets must be in high school during the 15-16 school year and at least the rank of C/CPL. They must have passed all NVMI classes first semester and are passing all NVMI classes as of 3rd quarter report cards and who do not have excessive permanent demerits (more than 30 as of 12 March). Cadets must also have passed the Fitnessgram during 2nd semester 2016 AND have a medical doctor’s permission to attend survival training. Parents of cadets interested in attending Survival Training must also attend a 30 minute orientation on the night of 3rd quarter Student Led Conferences at 1800 hours. This course is capped at 32 participants.

vi. Cadet Military Police School (CMP) - Cadets must have at least the rank of CFC. They must have passed all NVMI classes first semester and are passing all NVMI classes as of 3rd quarter report cards and who do not have excessive permanent demerits (more than 30 as of 12 March). Cadets must also have passed the Fitnessgram during 2nd semester 2016. This course is capped at 32 participants.

vii. Cadet Ranger School (CRS) - Cadets must be in grades 8 or higher during the 15-16 school year and at least the rank of C/CPL. They must have passed all NVMI classes first semester and are passing all NVMI classes as of 3rd quarter report cards and who do not have excessive permanent demerits (more than 30 as of 12 March). Cadets must also have passed the Fitnessgram during 2nd semester 2016 AND have a medical doctor’s permission to attend this training. This course is capped at 20 participants.

viii. Marksmanship Training Unit (MTU) - Cadets must be at least the rank of C/CPL. They must have passed all NVMI classes first semester and are passing all NVMI classes as of 3rd quarter report cards and who do not have excessive permanent demerits (more than 30 as of 12 March). This course is capped at 12 participants.

2.  SCHEDULE: Departure 18 June will be at noon from NVMI and return to NVMI will be 28 June by 1700.

3.  TRANSPORTATION: Bus transportation to/from the event and while at Camp Pendleton are included in the cost of registration.

4.  FOOD SERVICE: Cadets will be fed an evening meal 18 June, three meals 19-27 June, and a morning and noon meal on 28 June [with the exception of Survival Training Unit candidates who will participate in the Survival Training Exercise (STX) for five days of the training].

5.  SUPERVISION/COMMAND AND CONTROL. Commandants and/or chaperon(s) are responsible for proper around-the-clock supervision and safety of their cadets while attending this event.

6.  PROHIBITED ITEMS: The following items may NOT be brought to the event: knives, firearms, weapons of any kind, explosives, cell phones, radios, CD/DVD players, electronic devices of any kind, televisions, PDAs, drugs, alcohol, or tobacco. In general, anything not permitted at school is not permitted at the event.

7.  SUPPLY LIST: Cadets should bring the items on the attached packing list to the event.

8.  MEDICATION AND FIRST AID: If a cadet requires prescription medication, please indicate so on the Medical History form explaining the purpose and directions for administration of the medication. A medical service officer will collect these medicines and administer them IAW parent/doctor directives. Cadets requiring inhalers, “epi-pens”, or other emergency medications must keep these items on their person at all times. They should NOT be turned in to the medical services officer. Written records will be kept of all first aid and medication administrations and copies furnished to parents upon request.

9.  RIBBONS AND AWARDS: Cadets who successfully complete the course in which they are enrolled will earn the SUMMER TRAINING RIBBON. Depending on the course of study, they will also be eligible for the BNCOC, ANCOC, OCS, FIRST AID CERTIFICATION, SPECIALIZED TRAINING, or SURVIVAL ribbon. In addition, members of the unit selected as honor unit will receive the BRIGADE HONOR UNIT RIBBON BAR. The Summer Training HONOR CADET and HONOR CADET OFFICER bars will also be awarded. Survival graduates will earn the red beret. Marksmanship participants will be eligible to qualify for US Army marksmanship badges. Cadet Medic School graduates will qualify for the Cadet Medic Badge. Cadet Ranger School graduates will qualify for a Cadet Ranger Badge. Cadet Military Police School graduates will qualify for an MP arm band.

MEMORANDUM FOR: Parents and Cadets

FROM: Dr. Mark Ryan, Superintendent

All Cadets are invited to participate in NVMI’s Summer Camp at Camp Pendleton June 18-28, 2016.

The cost of the trip is $100 and is due with the permission slip by 8AM on April 2, 2016. Cash or merits are the only form of payments that are accepted. All cadets will be given a receipt for payments. Payments are NOT refundable. Payments should be made at the Hawk Exchange. Cadets may partially in merits and partially in cash, and may make installment payments through the Hawk Exchange.

Cadets should bring the items included on the attached packing list. If there are questions about the packing list, please see your TAC team.

Cadets should not bring

·  More than $30 cash money to be used at the Base Exchange (store)

·  Electronic devices (including cell phones)

·  Alcohol, tobacco, or medications not listed on the permission slip

·  Weapons, firearms, firecrackers, explosives, or

·  Any other items prohibited at school.

Available units and prerequisites to participate in those units are listed on the Camp Circular. Cadets will need to select their first, second, and third choices of units for camp on the application form. Units will be filled on a first come-first served basis, so getting applications in early is advantageous.

If there is a family emergency during the event and you need to reach your cadet, please call Dr. Ryan’s cell phone at 323-217-4481. Please only call in the event of a genuine emergency. He will not be able to return phone calls to parents “just checking to see if everything is OK.”

Cadets must turn in (1) an application, (2) permission slip, (3) Camp Pendleton Release Form, and (4) Medical History Form with (5) their payment to the Hawk Exchange. In the case of cadets participating in the Survival Training Unit, parents must complete an additional STU permission slip which will be made available at the Student Led Conference Survival Parent Briefing only. We recommend packing the following all in a single military style duffel bag for ease of transportation. These bags are generally available at military surplus stores and online.

·  Blousing bands (rubber bands or other blousing device) - 1 pair

·  Complete Class B uniform (black and white on a hanger (already prepared), including:

· Alcohol, tobacco, and tobacco products

· Fireworks

· ANY OTHER ITEM THAT WOULD NOT GENERALLY BE ALLOWED IN SCHOOL
