Council Meeting – January 19, 2012

Mayor Thomas L. Hardesty called the regularcouncil meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. with the following council members present:Mike Zoeller, Donna Eaton,Shane Suttor, Jon Swindler and Frank Page. Absent: Alan Matthews

City Employees Present:Bryan Slone, Mary Smith, Inez Harris, Jennifer Herrell, and Joe Hess

City Attorney: Steven Gregory

Councilmember Eaton gave the invocation.

All present pledged allegiance to the flag.

Mayor Hardesty welcomed troop of Boy Scouts.

Minutes/January 5, 2012

Councilmember Page moved to approve the minutes of January 5, 2012 as read by council members prior to the meeting. Seconded by Councilmember Swindler.

All voted “aye” and motion carried.

Ordinance/Correcting Errors in the Pay Scale Ordinance for the City of Shelbyville Firefighters – 1st Reading – Steven Gregory

Steven Gregory, City Attorney, read an ordinance correcting the number of hours in the ordinance. The correct hours are 2,912 not 2,080 as stated in Ordinance No. 2011-12-15(A).

It was introduced for first reading by Councilmember Zoeller. Seconded by Councilmember Suttor.

Department Reports

Katie Fussenegger, Shelby County Tourism, informed the council that Simpsonville will be joining the Tourism Commission. The commission will be revised according to KRS and the City of Simpsonville will have a seat on the commission.

Mary Smith, Personnel Administrator, reported working on W-2’s.

Jennifer Herrell, City Engineer/Public Works Director, reported working with the Water Company during a water main break. The department put out salt which helped because of the cold weather. She submitted a grant to KLC on behalf of the Fire Department and Public Works.

Bryan Slone, Golf Pro/Manager, reported the deadline for season passes is February 1, 2012. He has received a good response. The number of rounds this year is 400 compared to 173 this time last year.

Mayor’s Report

Mayor Hardesty reported there was a major water main break at 11th and Main Streets. The Water Company was assisted by the KY Transportation Cabinet and Public Works. Kentucky League of Cities will host City Night on February 1, 2012 from 4:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The city will host a retirement party for Firefighter Rickie Floyd on January 27th. The Fire Department will have a fundraiser for the Lander’s family on January 28, 2012. Two hour parking signs have been installed and will be enforced. As of today, 40 homeowners have paid the Hi-Point Bond Assessment; 3 homeowners have made partial payments, and 10 have not paid. The City will take legal action against anyone who has not paid by the end of the month.
