WHAT’S UP IN 3RD GRADE?

Wow! It has already been a busy third quarter!!

In Reading, we are working on our comprehension skills by identifying main ideas, making inferences, and writing summaries. Each student has identified reading strategies that they will strive to use to improve his/her own reading abilities. In the near future we will be working on test taking strategies to prepare for the upcoming May SOLs. In writing we are working on Persuasive Text. Be prepared to be persuaded!

In Math, we have finished our unit on Fractions, and will be starting Probability. We are also emphasizing identifying key words in story problems that will help us solve them. Please continue to practice multiplication and division facts,

0 – 12, daily. We hope that all 3rd graders can master them by the end of the year.

In Social Studies, we’ve been studying ancient civilizations. We’ve studied Greece and Rome so far, and will be moving on to Ancient Mali soon!

We will begin grade level practices for our musical soon. Please encourage your child to learn his or her lines/songs. Please be sure your child wears his/her musical t-shirt to the field trip on Tuesday. Thank you!
