Gene Brownell, a 1964 graduate of Henry High School and athletic director of Aberdeen Central High School in Aberdeen was recently named “Athletic Director of the Year” by the South Dakota Coaches Association. Following high school graduation, Brownell attended Northern State College for his undergraduate degree and then spent two years in the army. He later taught in high schools at Tulare, Herreid, and Kimball before returning to Northern to earn a graduate degree. In the fall of 1977, Brownell accepted a teaching and coaching job at Aberdeen Central and has been its athletic director for the past six years. Gene has two sons, Brian and Bradley and is married to Julie Brownell. His parents were the late Lee and Betty Brownell and his only sister; Cecelia lives in Mounds View, Minnesota.

Arlen, John and Stephanie Boehnke treated Joan to dinner out on Sunday in Henry.

Steph Nelson was a Tuesday afternoon visitor of Betty Campbell at Lake Kampeska.

Harold and Jeanette Hansen attended the graduation and reception for Mike Bevers at Presentation College at Aberdeen on Saturday.

Kayla Burchatz of Watertown was a Monday evening supper guest of Donna Kittelson. Later they visited with Harriet Kittelson at Prairie Lakes Nursing home.

Lori Page attended a workshop this passed week in Sioux Falls that focused on adoption.

Family members honored Aggie Opdahl of Hayti on her 93rd birthday with supper out Saturday evening in Henry.

Fain and Roxanne Geiger, Ken and Sally Luvaas and Russell enjoyed supper out Saturday evening at a local restaurant.

Marrion and LeDene Geiger attended Christopher Geiger’s confirmation exercises in Faulkton on Saturday. They later enjoyed lunch and visiting with Christopher and his parents, Monty and Jackie Geiger.

Cheryl and Maggie Hovde of rural Vienna were Wednesday visitors at the Floyd Kittelson home.

Joan Warnock and Steph Nelson attended the Henry School music concert on Tuesday evening.

Terry and Judy Kos were Mother’s Day dinner guests at the home of Bret and Karen Henricks at rural Waverly. Additional guests were Brian and Kathy DeJong and family of Watertown.

Alice Bruns and granddaughter, Erin Bruns of Lake Preston were overnight guests at the home of Alice’s sister, Ora Kent at Murdo.

Betty Keyes of Clark and Bonita Sharp attended the Mother’s Day Luncheon in the Garden City Methodist Church on Saturday.

Harold and Jeanette Hansen were Mother’s Day dinner guests at the Harold Belk home in Watertown on Sunday. Later in the afternoon they visited with Ilene Paulsen in Watertown.

Doris Coyle was a Mother’s Day dinner guest at the Veryl and Sandy Hoftiezer home in Watertown. Additional guests were Lucy Hoftiezer and Rick Hoftiezer of Watertown, Nathan and Jackie Lake of Hutchinson, MN and Kim Even of Sioux Falls.

Steve and Bev Paulsen treated their mothers, Dorothy Paulsen and Ethel Zirbes of Castlewood to dinner out on Mother’s Day.

Marrion and LeDene Geiger enjoyed Sunday dinner with Lisa and Chad Purintun and family.

Steph Nelson spent Wednesday in Sioux Falls attending to a medical appointment.

Wendell and Alice Bruns enjoyed pizza supper at the home of Shannon, Donna and Sammi Bruns in Watertown on Sunday.

Cokey Johnson spent Sunday in Hayti with her mother, Aggie Opdahl. Sharon Paulsen of Pierre also spent several days and Mother’s Day at the Opdahl home.

Donna Kittelson called on Bryan, Cindy and Hunter Wientjes at Clark on Thursday.

Muriel Larson of rural Clark was a guest of her daughter, Lori Page at a woman’s brunch at First Baptist Church in Watertown on Saturday. April Flemming favored the group with singing.

Enjoying the annual Mother’s Day picnic at the Joel and Marcia Montgomery home were Helen Van Sickle, Linda Page, Troy Van Sickle and Bob and Julie Van Sickle all of Watertown, Lisa, Sever and Lexy Griffin and Tim Zandt all of Renner, SD, MaryEllen, Ashlee and Caitlyn Dikoff of Mitchell, Gordon and Loydeen Van Sickle and Mike, Shauna, Kory and CaLeigh Lane all of Henry.

Barb Hartley, Laci Redlin and Bonnie Redlin attended the Mother’s Day Luncheon held Saturday at the Methodist Church in Garden City.

William Pickles and Rene Severson were Friday evening visitors at the Steph Nelson home.

Sunday evening supper guests at the Rod and Cherie Jans home were Brad and Lorie Terhark and family of Willow Lake, Jim and Marci Caster, Aaron and Connie Hemmingson and family and Milo and Janice Kolden of Clark, Gary and Betsy Kolden and family of rural Vienna, Donna Krause of North Dakota and Sheri Wirkus and family of Watertown.

Pat and Irene Redmond were Sunday evening supper guests at the home of Dennis and Barb Martenson.

Evie Johnson of Watertown and Floyd and Donna Kittelson had Mother’s Day dinner with Harriet Kittelson at Prairie Lakes Nursing home on Sunday. Later Floyd and Donna were visitors at the Tom and Kathy Wookey home in Clark.

Doris Coyle was a Sunday evening supper guest at the Steve and Bernie Coyle home in Watertown. Brad and Tina Coyle and family and Terry and Brenda German and family all of Watertown were also supper guests.

Harold and Jeanette Hansen attended “Life’s Options” in Fargo on Thursday.

Laci Redlin and Brodie hosted Mother’s Day supper for Bonnie Redlin, Wade Redlin, Mr. and Mrs. Chad Redlin and girls and Jenna Hartley all of Watertown, Mr. and Mrs. George Selchert of South Shore, Anna Harley of Garden City and Lynn and Barb Hartley of Henry.

Keri Nelson returned to her Henry home on Saturday after spending the past school year at the U of M at Crookston, Minnesota. In the evening, Dave Hentges of Canby, MN, Steph, Keri and Kaitlyn Nelson all enjoyed supper out in Henry.

Kelby Goodall and Toni Benck were supper guests at the home of Fain and Roxanne Geiger Sunday for Mother’s Day. The men were in charge of the cooking.

Enjoying Mother’s Day dinner at the Tom and Myrna Brenden home were Leslie Brenden, Allison and Zach of Florence, John and Chelsey Wiik of Watertown, Raymond and Cleo Biberdorf and Jared Brenden.

Henry High School foreign exchange student from last year, Eriko returned to the United States for Henry’s graduation and is spending time at the Dan and Teri Hoffman home.

Marie Hanson accompanied her daughter, Diane Van Patton to Rapid City where they spent time visiting with Barb Severin. The ladies then drove to St. Louis, Missouri where they attended the graduation of Diane’s daughter, Vanessa from Western University. They were joined in St. Louis by Brent and Carolyn Hanson of Carthage, Illinois who also attended the graduation. Marie returned to her home Sunday evening.

Jerard and Sally Paulsen of Kampeska Village, Brian and Virginia Robinson and boys of Watertown, Dorothy Paulsen, Mike and Joyce Paulsen, Steve, Bev and Adam Paulsen attended the recent wedding of Jennie Roblewsky, daughter of Pat and Linda Roblewsky in Omaha, Nebraska.

Steph, Keri and Kaitlyn Nelson celebrated Mother’s Day by having supper out in Watertown. Later they stopped by and visited with Joan Warnock in Henry.

Nick Stern of Lily and Heather Morgan of Watertown treated Linda Stern to Mother’s Day dinner in Watertown.

Pat and Irene Redmond were Sunday dinner guests at the Rodger and Diane Redmond home.

Calvin and Lois Schoepp were Sunday dinner guests at the Tom and Karen Miller home near Iroquois. Stacey York of Sioux Falls and Diane York of Watertown were afternoon callers.

Charlie and Nikki Heustess of Watertown spent Saturday at the Dale and Teresa Peterson home.

Lois Schoepp joined Jeanice Rasmusson and Lola Alexander in Clark for Thursday afternoon coffee.

George and Georgia Heustess treated Lynore Calder to supper on Saturday evening and dinner on Sunday in celebration of Mother’s Day.

Arlen Swedeen was a Sunday dinner guest of LeRay and Andrea Swedeen at Lake Pelican. The LeRay Swedeens were enjoying a weekend of camping.

Doris Coyle and Lois Schoepp called on Joan Warnock Thursday evening.

Doctor Ed and Ann Larson of Watertown were recent callers at the Arlen Swedeen home.
