Session Summary

I. Introduction – Brief introduction to UDL as a whole, the “Directions” analogy, some resources available (Natural Reader?), and then a brief overview of the “5 Everyday Strategies”.

*The teachers as a whole will be split into 5 groups pre-arranged by the planning committee and provided on nametags from each school. These will be their “traveling groups” for the sessions below.

II. Small Group Rotations – These sessions will be led by members of the planning committee from each school (see key above). Each station will be based on the following three themes: 1) Summary of the strategy 2) Examples of the strategy in action at each level 3) Resources to help get teachers started. Teachers will receive a sheet from each station that has a summary of the strategy and resources they can use. The planning committee has charged each focus group to find video examples in Carroll County of their strategy in action at all three levels.

III. Choice Group Debrief – Teachers will choose their UDL strategy focus for the upcoming months based on the earlier sessions. They will return to the location of that particular session for a debriefing session. There will be guided discussion questions to help teachers focus on the next steps of the process. There will also be a sign in sheet so the facilitators can provide the group members with contact information to facilitate support and discussions throughout the year. Ultimately teachers will fill out a brief form indicating the group they chose and their next steps towards implementation in the classroom.

IV. Lunch – Lunch will be provided in the cafeteria and teachers will be asked to sit with their rotation groups from the 2nd session.
