TITLE: Certification Pay (Pay Code 415)
Effective Date: February 2010
Revision Dates: July 7, 2010
Authorized Approval: Exec Council
Cross Reference: / Policy Initiated by: Compensation Committee
Date Last Reviewed:

STATEMENT OF POLICY:

This pay is intended to recognize associates who have achieved certification (unless certification is a requirement for the position) from a nationally recognized professional association identified by Centura Health(see attached list). This pay is intended to recognize the advanced knowledge that certification represents.

PROCEDURE:

Eligibility

oOnly non-exempt associates.

oEligible certifications are determined by meeting all of the following criteria:

  1. Market data supports additional pay for the certification
  2. Data will be gathered by third party resources through the compensation department
  3. Certification is nationally recognized by professional organization who established standards of practice for the specialty.
  4. The certification has practice requirement (usually in the form of minimum hours per year to qualify for examination and re-certification)
  5. Must require recertification/CEUs to maintain the certification.

oPositions primarily in clinical and allied health job families within Centura are eligible for certification pay if they meet all the criteria.

oUnion position eligibility and pay rates are described in the most recent bargaining agreement.

Approval Process:

  • Prior to implementation of the Certification Policy for eligible positions, the following approvals must be received and documented:
  • Service Line Leadership from the Centura entities must collectively provide a request for certifications to be made eligible identifying the certifying body, existing/future positions within the organization that could be eligible, an outline of the requirements (current/ongoing), and the impact on patient care/operations as a result of receiving certification (if approved). To ensure consistency, the leadership body must agree on eligible certifications and positions in order to begin modeling and pricing for eligibility.
  • Service Line leadership would be the team that oversees and is ultimately responsible for the respective jobs. (Example: For Pharmacy Certification, Pharmacy Directors and/or Executive Level leaders from each entity must weigh in, agree and represent the decision.
  • Following receipt of required documentation, market due diligence will occur using the parameters outlined in the Eligibility section above.
  • If the requested certifications are deemed eligible, financial approval will be required to include implementation and communication planning.
  • Financial approval is defined as CFO committee approving requested financial impact and it will require that all entities endorse/implement Certification for the positions deemed eligible.
  • Once approved, the policy will be initiated for the approved area(s). Communication to impacted associates will be the responsibility of management, Human Resources, and Compensation.

General:

oOnly one eligible certification pay will be recognized for each associate.

oManagers or designee will complete a change of status to initiate the differential pay when an associate provides required documentation of passing of certification examination. A copy of the certificate must be attached to the COS before HR can process increase. (Score report is not acceptable.)

oIf it is not a keying week pay will begin the next pay period after paperwork is received in HR (NO RETRO PAY)

oCertification should be related to primary area worked.

oLawson/HR will automatically stop the certification pay once the expiration date has expired. It is the responsibility of the manager and/or associate to send the renewed certification to the HR department to continue the certification pay.

oShould an associate transfer to a unit where the Certification does not apply, the pay will stop on the effective date of a transfer.

oCertification pay will only be paid thru this policy and not in any other programs (e.g. CAPS).
