Spring 2018 Award Nomination Form

The Graduate Student Council Awards Ceremony has been one of the primary goals of past and present GSC members. The vision is to recognize and honor outstanding graduate students and their mentors for their exceptional achievements and contributions to Arkansas State University.

Award winners and their nominators will be invited to attend the Graduate Student Council Annual Banquet and Awards Ceremony on 25 April 2018 at 6:00pm in Delta Center Room 201.


Outstanding Graduate Research Award

The Outstanding Graduate Research Award recognizes outstanding graduate students who have contributed significantly to the growth of Arkansas State University through their exemplary leadership abilities and outstanding research. This award recognizes graduate students who are working in conjunction with the research of a faculty member in a capacity that enhances the student’s career and educational development. Additionally, graduate students who are working on research of their own, apart from a faculty member, are also eligible for this award. This student’s research should exemplify professionalism and significant accomplishments, whether it is in the laboratory conducting experiments or in the library doing searches, data entry, preparation of reports, or other time consuming, research-oriented tasks. Two graduate students (one Master’s-level and one Doctoral-level student) will be selected and awarded the Outstanding Graduate Research Award each spring by nominations from faculty, staff, and/or fellow students.

Suggestions for Nomination Letters

  • Include information about any special challenges the student faced in his or her research.
  • Specific information about the role of the student from the initiation through the completion of the research. Was the series of studies conceived solely by the student, or did the studentfollow new or long-standing research activity of a faculty member?
  • Has the student presented the results of his or her research at professional meetings?
  • Have any publications resulted from the student’s research? If so, the committee benefitsby having a reprint of the one most representative publications included in the nomination packet.
  • Describe any awards the student may have earned for their research.
  • The committee needs guidance regarding the importance of the research in which thestudent was engaged. Did the research have regional, national, or international impact? Ifso, how?
  • Is the student an outstanding representative of A-State? If so, in what way?
