Defn: If adequate, these factors can prevent dissatisfaction but does not cause satisfaction

Defn: These factors meet the needs of a person that allow satisfaction

Defn: These needs are desires that drive people to do their best, be self-fulfilled and reach their full potential. Eg. Looking inwardly and being content within yourself

Defn: The most basic of human survival needs.

Defn: A desire by people for security, safety and to be free from danger.

Defn: Where recognition, ego and status are important.

Defn: Relates to the desire for human interaction, friendship and relationships

Theorists Defn: Asserted that needs could be divided into 2 distinct groups

Theorists Defn: Proposed that employees were satisfied by 5 different needs. Lower order needs must be satisfied first before moving to the next level of needs

Theorists Defn: Condensed ‘hierarchy theory’ from 5 needs to 3 needs. Assumes more than one level can be sought at the same time.
