I’ve included phone numbers. You may want to call ahead and ask if you are looking for something specific. Additionally, there are more Walmart and Hobby Lobby locations with fabric—I think these are the closest.
Do’s and Don’ts when purchasing:
·  Check your pattern for Suggested Fabrics – stay within the guidelines given for the pattern.
·  Remember that using plaids, stripes, directional prints, and border prints require extra fabric. Fashion I students should avoid these types of fabrics
·  Remember to check the back of your envelope for “Nap” details.
·  Fabrics with a Nap- velvet, velour, corduroy, terry cloth and fleece require more experienced sewers. Beginning level/ Fashion I - students should not select any of these fabrics
·  Knit Fabrics and fabrics with “Stretch require more expertise- Not suitable for Fashion I students unless otherwise instructed by your teacher.
·  Squeeze the fabric gently in your hand to see if there is a wrinkle factor.
·  Read the end of the bolt and label carefully before purchasing fabric.
·  Copy all required information from the end of the bolt before you leave the store. Take a photo! You must have this information for your fabric fact sheet. One must be turned in for all sewing projects.
·  Save your receipt!!
·  Buy all notions while you are at the store. Check the details on the back of your pattern envelope. Make sure you buy what is required on the envelope. If the pattern calls for ½ inch elastic – get ½ inch—other widths will not fit! If it calls for ½ inch buttons- get ½ inch!! If it calls for a 7 inch zipper- get a 7 inch zipper.
·  Have enough money to pay for your bill. You may need to calculate the yardage in your head – BEFORE you have them cut it at the cutting table.
·  Ask for a student discount – if they don’t offer one- check for coupons online before you shop.
·  Be polite!! Your represent our school!! Ask for help if needed and plan enough time so that you don’t get frustrated. / ·
