TODAY
This is officially the end of the Christmas season. And we end with a big one; the Baptism of the Lord Jesus. His Baptism tells us about who he was; and more, it tells us about what baptism does for us.
Do you know the date of your own baptism? We’ll be asking the children. It’s good to celebrate the day of our baptism, and to ‘make a fuss’ of our children’s baptism anniversary. It was the day in which they were born into the Church and into the likeness of Christ. So we have a leaflet (a pink card) for a lovely short service on such days; please take one.
LAST WEEK Everybody enjoyed the visit last week of Archbishop Tartaglia. He even told us of how he celebrated Christmas with his own family. Afterwards he was photographed with the children’s choir at our crib; see it in the Scottish Catholic Observer, (though some important people have been cut out of it!)
SACRAMENTS a] Next Sunday we will enroll children for the sacraments of Reconciliation and First Communion. Some in Glasgow schools in primary 3 did so last year. Any to be added, or new to the parish should do so. Those at OLM in primary 4 should all do so. Enrollment can be done at any of the four Masses on Sat/Sun next week.
b] Baptism. We have several parents requesting Baptism and their preparation starts very soon. We ask; any more? As in previous years we try not to have baptisms during Lent, and save them for Easter, the great feast of life. So the last baptisms would be before Lent which begins on 3 March.
c] Confirmation: We hope to have Confirmation for primary 7 Children of OLM in early May; so far we have four children. We’d like to know if there are any more?
WEEK OF PRAYERThis starts on 18 January when we gather with those baptised in other churches. The Archbishop tells Catholic Glasgow that he will be preaching in an ecumenical service along the road – in Eastwood Parish Church, no less. Let’s join in there on Sunday 19 January (next Sunday) at 6.30pm.
CRIB Today the lights go out in the crib. So it’s your last chance to make an offering towards St Margaret Care since they are being legally challenged (and lost £157,000) by our government. So far £230 has come in.
In the Justice & Peace collection last week you gave £405; and in the Pastoral Care boxes we have counted £315. Last ones in this week please.
R.I.P. Please pray for all who have died receently, and for their families, especially:

‘This light (from the Paschal Candle) has been entrusted to us to be kept burning brightly…may we keep the flame of faith alive in our hearts. And when the Lord comes may we go out to meet him with all the saints in the heavenly kingdom,’ (Said at baptism, and recalled on this day of the Lord’s baptism)
