How to file Witness Slip in the Illinois General Assembly
Register online with the Illinois General Assembly in order to file witness slips (your views on legislation). You must already have an opinion (proponent or opponent) concerning the House or Senate bill.
- Go to the Illinois General Assembly Website at
- Click on GA Dashboard found in red under Reports and Inquiry
- At the Dashboard site, click on Register on the left column
- At the Create an Account page, follow the request to put in your email and password. Click that you agree to the Terms and Agreements and then click register.
- You will receive an email acknowledging your registration. You must confirm your registration from that email.
- Now that you have created an account, you can log in whenever you want to file a witness slip. You don’t have to go through steps 3-5 again.
Follow the instructions below when you wish to file a Witness Slip
- Follow steps 1 and 2 above to get to the Dashboard and click.
- When you are there, click log on, found at the upper right of the screen.
- Then click Senate or Housedepending on the Bill at the left of the screen.
- Then click Committesat the left of the screen.
- Cursor down to the appropriate Committee and if it says Scheduled to the right of it, click the second icon Hearings. (For Respect Life Issuestheappropriate Committee is Human Services.)
- Then click on View Legislation on the right.
- When the bills appear, find the bill of interest and click on the second icon Create Witness Slip.
- Complete the witness form. Your personal information will already be filled in from your registration data. Leave the Description as Original Bill. Select Proponent or Opponent based on your preference.
- Under Testimonyclick Record of Appearance Onlythen click Create Slip.
