Assembly Instructions for the VERSArm™ Carrier:

Step 1.)Unpack the Carrier

Important! Remove both metal bushings from the yokes of the VERSArm™ before assembly. These are for packing purposes only and are not used in the assembly of the VERSArm™.

Step 2.) Unpack the U-bolt, plate, nuts and washers. This component is the Drawbar Stabilizer and is made to slide over the carrier’s drawbar before inserting into the vehicles receiver hitch and serves as a mechanism to eliminate the movement between the VERSArm™and the vehicle hitch. It also serves as a theft deterrent.

Step 3.) First place the plate over the bolts, then put the washers and nuts on the bolts.

Step 4.) Notice the bend in the plate, this is important. Position the U-Bolt on the drawbar with the plate on the bottom side of the drawbar. The nuts should be on the bottom of the plate. The short bent portion of the plate is to be turned up and facing away from the vehicle’s receiver hitch.

Step 5.) After positioning the drawbar stabilizer on the carrier’s drawbar, pick up the front main beam of the carrier by holding on to the middle and slide it into the vehicle’s hitch. When the carrier’s drawbar is slid in far enough, the holes in the side of the hitch and the hole in the drawbar line up, insert the 5/8” hitch pin through the aligned holes and place the clip in the pin to prevent it from removal.

Step 6.) After step five, connect the safety chains located on each side of the drawbar to the safety chainears located on each side of the vehicle’s receiver hitch. Loop the chains through the hitch ears and back to the swing arm. Hook the chain back on itself as close to the swing arm as possible. Note: the safety chains serve as an added measure of keeping the arm attached to the vehicle’s receiver hitch.

Step 7.) Slide the Drawbar Stabilizer’s U-Bolt up against the vehicle’s receiver hitch. Tighten the two nuts on the bottom of the plate. Remember to have the short side of the bend of the plate to be against the bottom of the carrier’s drawbar and the flat side of the plate to be under and against the vehicle’s hitch. Tighten the bolts to a very snug fit. Try to wiggle or move the carrier’s front main beam. If movement is still occurring then re-tighten the two bolts on the bottom of the plate. The Stabilizer is designed to prevent movement between the hitch and the carrier and needs to be very snug.

Step 8.) Attach the rear swing arm (curved arm) to the front main beam (straight beam) of the carrier. The rear (curved) swing arm has a prop leg bracket on one end.The prop leg end of curved arm is to be inserted in the driver’s side of the front main straight beam. The opposite end goes in the passenger side (pivot / hinge end) of the front main beam. This is easier to assemble if the passenger side is inserted first and the bolt placed in it is initially hand tightened.

Step 9.) Close the swing arm andinsert the latch pin andclip.

NOTE:The rear curved swing arm will not swing freely. It requires some tension/drag to keep it properly aligned. Periodically tighten the pivot bolt to keep it from freely swinging. The swing arm is made so that it does not align with latch ears on front main beam without loading with grill. Push down to insert swing arm latch ears into front main beam.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The swing arm is built with preload to make it easier to open or close when the grill’s weight is on it, thus the arm requires downward pressure to close when nothing is attached to the arm. If you find that your swing arm is not at the desired level when in the open position it can easily be adjusted.Simply prop up the hinge at the passenger side then, with the arm in the 90% open position, push the arm down or lift it up to the desired level. The arm is built very strong so you will not damage it when adjusting the level. During the welding process heat generated from the process can sometimes cause the metal to draw hence the occasional high or low position of the arm.

Assembling the Prop Legs on the Rear Swing Arm:

1.) Open plastic bag containing 1 bolt, 1 safety pin, 1 busing, 2 washers and 1 nut.

2.) IMPORTANT! Insert the bushing inside square tube on the top of the prop leg.

3.) Insert top of prop leg (square tube) in the pivot ears of the rear curved swing arm having the welded nuts on the top side of the legs.

4.) Place washer over bolt and insert bolt through prop leg pivot ears

5.) Place washer and nut over thread end of bolt and tighten until the legs remain stationary in any position. If legs are too hard to move, loosen slightly.

6.) Fold prop leg up to the horizontal position then insert safety pin to keep prop leg in desired position. Up is the horizontal position for transport and down is the vertical position for grilling.

Frequently Asked Question

Q: Why is my Swing arm not level when in the open position?

A: Grill must be as level as possible when using to avoid grease overflow from the ash tray.

Adjusting level of Swing Arm:

The arm is built to be slightly higher at the latch end to aid in lifting the arm when closing, however from time to time during the welding process heat generated from the process makes the arm slightly too far up resulting in the arm being too high when in the open position. The fix is a simple adjustment; see below for instructions on how to level the arm.

To level the arm simply prop or block the arm at the hinge point (passenger side of vehicle) to stabilize corner then you push the end of the arm down by forcing it with your hands and body weight (be careful not to bend it too far), almost level to level is enough. Depending upon how strong you are you could over bend it. If that happens lift the arm up to the point of level. The arm can easily be leveled without damaging the arm.

Note: The arm is very strong and you will not damage it when you slightly bend it up or down (which ever it may need) at the open end.

Q: Why does the rear arm of the VERSArm HD appear to be welded on an offset?

A: That’s because it is offset; to assemble the rear arm to the front main beam you must have someone hold the driver’s side of the arm up approximately 2″ +/- 1″ to allow the pivot/hinge ears to align. Once the holes are aligned insert the bolt and tighten until the arm no longer swings freely. Then close the arm by applying pressure to the latch end to force the arm down and into the latch ears. After the grill is attached to the arm the weight of the grill will help hold the arm down. The arm was elevated on the end to reduce the need to lift the grill into the latch ears when closing.

Installing the SWING’N Smoke™ Grill on the VERSArm™ Carrier:

1.) In order to see the mounting shoes that fit over the VERSArm™, open the rear service door of the grill.

2.) The tee bolts which are part of the mounting shoes must be open in order for the grill to fit over the carrier’s arm.

3.) To install or remove the Party King MVP Grill on or off the VERSArm™ you must have two people. Each person lifts one side of the MVP Grill by using the handle at each end of the grill and places it over the rear arm of the VERSArm™ Carrier.

4.) Fold the bolts on the mounting shoes to the horizontal position. This places the bolt under the carrier’s

swing arm. At this point tighten the plastic knobs until very snug. Install the safety pins in the open holes next to the plastic knobs. Note: These holes can act as a theft deterrent by using a long shank padlockversus the safety pin.
