Updated Formational Goals

Short Range Goals:

My short term goals have been met during my years in the Graduate School of Theology, but continue to be applicable as I end the program and pursue life long learning. They are: 1.Learn, stretch, and formulate my theological principles guided by the Holy Spirit through educational experiences; 2.Give my best effort to study and discern God’s direction and my vocation in ministry; 3.Apply pastoral care principles that I learn to my daily job as a home health physical therapist and lay minister at my church, serving in children and women’s education, and ministry to the poor.

Long Range Goals:

1. One pursuit that has surfaced over my three years pursuing my MACM degree is working with college students. I have felt connected to college students during my time in this program and have started a lay ministry at my church focusing on college students. My husband and I are currently leading a Sunday morning Bible class, hosting events in our home, serving with students in the community, and attempting to initiate a small group discipleship group/missional community.

2. I continue to have the goal of teaching at the college level. My husband and I have both had more involvement with the University of Mary Hardin Baylor in the last few years (he as an adjunct professor and myself in volunteer student ministry) I feel gifted in public speaking and teaching and would like to pursue an adjunct professor position at the University of Mary Hardin Baylor in Belton, TX.To be an adjunct professor, I only need a Master’s level degree, and some experience with teaching. As a teacher in women’s ministry, and some teaching experience in a Physical Therapy Assistant Program, I believe that I’d be a good candidate.UMHB will also be starting a Physical Therapy School next year. I would be qualified to teach in that program as well.

3. My non-profit organization is thriving and I plan to continue my long term partnership with The Haiti Education Alliance. My goal is to fundraise for my organization year round, and travel to Haiti at least once a year.

4. I am passionate about local work with the poor as well. I have established a relationship with a local residential drug and alcohol treatment facility. This Christian facility has need for Bible study leaders and spiritual mentors for the residents, so I am on an as needed basis in both capacities. I also coordinate a team that offers a worship service and lunch for the homeless in my community once a month. I plan to continue my involvement with an ecumenical leadership team (non-profit) for this ministry in my community.

5. Long range, I continue feel led to pursue hospital or hospice chaplaincy, marrying my medical knowledge and skills with my passion for spiritual direction and pastoral care.I live in a medical community with a large teaching hospital and a new state of the art children’s hospital.I continue to work part time as a home health physical therapist, and want to continue this work. I work with numerous home health agencies in my current job with many dealings with hospice care. In my current job, I work with the elderly and have a unique perspective on death and dying that I have gained from my patients.I am familiar with and am gifted in counseling people that are struggling with illness, injury, and disability.I was able to take Theology and Ministry in Times of Crisis with Virgil Fry as an elective in my MACM program. I have closely counseled a friend who tragically lost her husband last year and utilized much of what I learned in the class. This has further confirmed a calling in spiritual direction and grief counseling. I plan on looking into Scott and White’s Clinical Pastoral Education program in the next two years after my oldest daughter has graduated from high school.
