Volunteer Satisfaction Survey 2014

The annual Volunteer Satisfaction Survey forms part of Le Chéile’s commitment to ensuring that all our volunteers feel heard, supported and recognised in the important work that they do with young people and parents in their communities.

The results are overwhelmingly positive, and we’re pleased have maintained this standard from last year, and the year before. 93% of respondents rated their overall experience of volunteering with Le Chéile as ‘very good’ or ‘excellent’, compared with last year’s response of 94% and 2012’s 92.3%.

This year has seen an increase in volunteer retention, with 81% of our volunteers having been with us for over 1 year, a great increase from 2013’s 55%. Volunteers staying with the project for 2 years and over has increased 11 points to 44%.

Volunteers were very positive about the support they receive from their co-ordinators, with 94% of respondents rating it ‘very good’’ or ‘excellent.’ The comments section reflected the high positive response.

A large majority of respondents rated induction training as ‘very good’’ or ‘excellent’ (95%), and increase on last year’s 91%. 86% of respondents rating ongoing training as ‘very good’’ or ‘excellent’.

We hope we can continue this high level of satisfaction from volunteers and will be working hard to ensure all our volunteers feel happy and satisfied in their volunteering work. We’ll continue to ensure that induction training, ongoing training, and supervision meet all our volunteers’ needs.

Le Chéile’s volunteer satisfaction survey was held from mid July to mid-September 2014. 106 volunteers responded. We’d like to thank all who responded.

Question 20: Thank you for completing this survey! Please let us know if you have any other comments or suggestions about volunteering with Le Chéile.

  • KEEP UP THE EXCELLENT WORK
  • at present I have none. The staff are forever approachable. Every aspect of group supervision or training is excellent!
  • Disappointed that volunteers aren't matched quicker, despite the problems with youth issues.
  • VOLUNTEERING HAS ENRICHED MY LIFE. I LOOK FORWARD TO IT EVERY WEEK
  • Maybe letting the volunteers be more involved with le Chéilei.e.: doing more hours a week especially those like myself who are interested in a career within the community. Maybe do more courses for volunteers and they are able to gain certificates which count towards credits so that those who don’t work get a chance to obtain jobs outside le Chéile or within Le Chéile. The courses would obviously have to relate what us as volunteers do.
  • Budget cuts - difficult to do stuff now. Always have to check, have to plan more. I know it's the same for everyone.
  • I'm training in the field of counselling and psychotherapy and currently on relief work in addiction. I have benefited great learning experience, ongoing support and new skills as a volunteer with Le Cheile which is a great opportunity to contribute to the community . Thank you
  • very lucky to be involved with le cheile
  • It has been a journey, there have been tough times, frustrating times, sad times and challenging times but a greatlearning curve for both mentee and mentor. To hear your mentee laugh for the first time after months of sessions, cry, learn to like themselves, trust themselves, be comfortable with a compliment and want something changedand different in their lives is just such a joy to be a part of. I would like to say a huge Thank You to ourCoordinator who is second to none and never ceases to show her appreciation and gratitude for our time andeffort. She is a great support.
  • The training, contact, communication and support from Le Cheile staff is excellent. I also feel valued as avolunteer with the organisation. I am very happy to be involved with Le Cheile as a mentor.
  • Keep up the excellent work, those support sessions are very useful
  • heather sinnott is fantastic and passionate about her work,
  • It has been a great privilege to mentor with Le Chéile. I have taken more than I have given. My co-ordinator is arock of strength and good old-fashioned common sense. Thank you.
  • Greater level of communication Use of email rather than posting updates about mentoring sessions
  • Do not change what is already working!!
  • A big thank you to Fidelma for all her support and encouragement!
