Good defence is a partnership
South opens 1. West passes and North jumps to 4. West leads the 4.Declarer plays small from Dummy and you win with the J. You cash the A and partner shows out. Declarer therefore has the 10, so you play the Q and partner says “East is winning this trick so I don’t need to trump partner’s trick” and Declarer claims 10 tricks. It is your (East’s) fault, not your partner’s.
After winning the second trick you (East) should stop and consider. “If I play the Q partner may consider that we have already won the trick, and might not trump if they have a trump higher than the 8.
Therefore what I have to do is to make sure that I don’t play the Q winning the trick, what I have to do is to ensure that I am losing the trick by playing a small club; then, if partner has a heart higher than the eight they will trump with it and the contract will be defeated!
