Leamington North

Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT)

Our team works on a variety of projects, and here are details of our activity over the last few weeks:

News stories

A member of the public has had their pedal cycle returned following a burglary. The cycle had been found by a member of the public who contacted the police. The PCSO’s who collected the bike carried out some detective work and linked it to the burglary. The owner was identified and the cycle was returned.

Events

The Team have been busy this month with a number of events as well as their usual day to day jobs.

We helped support our colleagues in Kenilworth with the Horse Fair that was held over the last weekend in July. We helped with traffic management to ensure the roads stayed clear and we were on foot patrols in Kenilworth town centre talking to businesses and members of the community.

We have been regularly patrolling areas of concern for our residents at different times of the day. Some of these areas are discussed and decided at the North Leamington Community Forum. The next one is due to be held on the 12/10/2017 at the Leamington Town Hall.

Throughout the month PCSO’s have continued to seize vehicles without tax from the streets. DVLA have also been present in our area doing the same.

Crime Prevention Advice

During the warmer weather, we would remind residents of North Leamington to keep their homes and possessions safe. Please consider the following points:

·  Don’t leave your doors and windows unlocked, even when you’re at home. An opportunist might just gain entry if you make it easy for them.

·  If you’re working in your garden, make sure other areas of your property are secure.

·  Don’t leave garden tools out in your garden. A ladder or garden spade could be used to help a burglar get in to your own home.

·  Even though you might be using bikes more frequently, keep them secure and locked in sheds and garages.

·  Remember to close your sunroof when leaving your car.

·  Don’t leave dogs for a long period in vehicles. Police often get called by members of the public to check on animals.

·  Report any suspicious activity to police on 101.

Now the school holidays are upon us you may be off on holiday, here are a few points to consider for peace of mind while you’re away:

·  Uncollected mail is a sign that you are away. The Royal Mail’s ‘Keepsafe’ service will keep your mail for up to two months while you are away. You can apply online or pick up a form at your local post office.

·  Use automatic timer-switches to turn your lights on when it gets dark

·  Consider leaving important documents or valuables with other family members or lock them in a safe.

·  Don’t leave your curtains closed in the daytime as this shows the house is empty

·  Make sure you have up to date household insurance that suits your needs

·  Finally, don’t forget to lock all external doors and windows. If you have a burglar alarm, make sure it is set.

Bicycle Security

When leaving a cycle unattended it is best practice to use a “D” Lock and lock it to a static object.

Giving information to Police

If you have information about the supply of drugs call police on 101, or remain anonymous by speaking to the independent charity Crimestoppers, 0800 555 111, www.crimestoppers-uk.org

About your team

Safer Neighbourhood Teams work with local people and partners to identify, tackle and solve issues that matter to the community where you live.

Making neighbourhoods safer by cutting day-to-day crime and anti-social behaviour is at the heart of keeping people in Warwickshire safe. Thanks to an investment in mobile tablet style computers, these

will enable officers to spend more time on patrol on the street and in neighbourhoods.

Officers will continue to come to people when they need them and provide a high quality service however you contact us - in person (on the street, at community bases and at partners and communities together [PACT] meetings), on the phone or online.
