THE CONSTITUTION AND BY-LAWS OF THE

JOHNSBURG ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME

Article I

PREAMBLE

The Johnsburg Athletic Hall of Famefounded in 2015 (here in referred to as the HOF) is dedicated to the outstanding athletes, teams, coaches and supporters who through their athletic accomplishments have brought honor(recognition) to themselves, JohnsburgHigh School and the community.

Article II

PURPOSE

The purpose of our HOF is threefold.

  1. To recognize and honor (acknowledge) all the outstanding athletes, teams, coaches and supporters who have brought fame to the school.
  2. To establish in the hearts of our youth a motivational influence to excel in athletics.
  3. To foster and preserve good sportsmanship, scholarship, and citizenship in our teams, in our school and in our community.

Article III

THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS

A. The Board of Directors of the HOF will have a maximum of twenty (20) members. The members will consist of the following:

  1. The Board of Directors will be comprised of current and former coaches, staff members, Athletic Booster Club members and community representatives.

B. All Board Members have full voting privileges.

C. The Board of Directors shall elect within itself the following officers and at large members on an annual basis; President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer. A simple majority of those in attendance is necessary to elect an officer. An unexpired term of an officer will be filled by a simple majority vote of the Board of Directors at any time.

D. For the Board of Directors to conduct official business a majority of the Board members in attendance must approve the agenda item. To change the by-laws requires a 70% of the total Board of Directors for approval.

Article IV

NOMINEES FOR MEMBERSHIP

Nominees for membership into the HOF shall be former students, coaches, staff or supporters ofJohnsburg High School who have given our community dignity by their achievements.

  1. Athletes and teams are eligible a minimum of five (5) years after graduation and must qualify in one of the following classifications:
  1. State Champions or State Medalist – An individual or team state champion or medalist from any IHSA sport.
  2. Outstanding Athletes – Individuals who earned varsity letters in high school and because of their participation contributed significantly to the Johnsburg athletic program.
  3. Post-High School Achievement – An individual athlete who, after high school, brought recognition to our school and community by their outstanding post-high school athletic accomplishments.
  1. Coaches are eligible for nomination a minimum of five (5) years after the conclusion of their coaching career at Johnsburg High School.
  1. Outstanding Supporters or Staff – An individual who has given meritorious service to the Johnsburg athletic program.

Article V

NOMINATING AN INDIVIDUAL OR TEAM

Anyone wishing to nominate an individual or team to the Johnsburg Athletic HOF must submit a “Nomination Form” to the Johnsburg Athletic Office by the established deadlineto be considered.

Article VI

SCREENING OF NOMINEES

The Board of Directors and/or the Nomination Committee will review all nominations to the HOF.

Article VII

ELECTIONS

All nominations will be reviewed by the Board of Directors and an election will take place.

Article VIII

COMMITTEES

In order to divide responsibilities, the Board may formcommittees that will report directly to the Board of Directors. While the committee can be made up of individuals not on the Board of Directors, it is required that the chairperson of that committee be a Board member. The chairperson of the committee is to make regular reports to the Board of the committee’s activities. Possible committees may include but are not limited to:

Article IX

INDUCTION OF NOMINEES

The HOF induction ceremony will be open to the public, families and friends of those elected.

Article X

AWARDS

  1. Individual inductees into the HOF will be acknowledgedin the HOF display and will receive an individual plaque to have as a keepsake. Teams selected to the HOF will be acknowledged in the HOF display.

Article XI

REMOVAL OF AN INDIVIDUAL FROM THE HALL

Because the HOF is an honor that involves dignity and pride in our community, the Board of Directors reserves the right to remove a person inducted into the HOF if information becomes available to the Board of Directors that makes it obvious that the elected individual no longer is deserving of this high honor. A majority decision by the Board of Directors in attendance is required to remove a member from the HOF.

Article XII

Non-Profit Corporation

Said corporation is organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes, including, for such purposes, the making of distributions to organizations that qualify as exempt organizations and under section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, or the corresponding section of the tax code.

Upon the dissolution of the corporation, assets shall be distributed for one or more exempt purposes with the meaning of section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, or the corresponding section of any future tax code, or shall be distributed to the federal government, or to a state or local government, for a public purpose. Any such assets not so disposed of shall be disposed of by a Court of Competent Jurisdiction of the county in which the principle office of the corporation is the located, exclusively for such purposes or to such organization or organizations, as said Court shall In witness whereof, we have hereunto subscribed our names this (day, date)
